Well, I haven't been burned (har) with imgburn yet. Been using it longer than I've been using Windows 10 and it's always worked just fine for me. If it ever fails, there are multiple free alternatives to go to.

I suggest you look at the item from Jacquers below. Test the main ImgBurn executable on the VirusTotal website if you want to see for yourself.

Yeah, I came across that too. However, I already had a 'clean' version on my main machine so I just used that on the machine I was trying to install imgburn on.

I see no indication that ImgBurn is no longer supported. If it still works despite everything you've mentioned, why should there be a newer release? You want a flat, all-white UI with monochrome icons?
I'm looking at their support forum right now. The newest post is from 21 minutes ago (as I'm writing this). Prior to that, 9 hours ago, then 10, then Wednesday, and Monday, etc.
I'd say it's still very much active.

Thanks to all who responded. I tried 5 different options: The windows burner, Cyberlink, UltraISO, a 10 year old version of Roxio, and ImgBurn. So far ImgBurn is my favorite by far. And it's free!

Because it is not for interacting, it is just to have a place where good tools are listed and easier to find.
If there were more activity, you would have to "next page" a lot to find the posts.
As it is, you can navigate reading the subject and possibly find something useful faster.

I also have been using ImgBurn for years, never a single problem... One thing I've learned, though, is to use lower write speeds for cheap unbranded discs. Sometimes I even write at 1x or 2x and go watch a movie while the disc "bakes"

CDBXPP yes, it's old, ( so am I and mostly functional ). I never write full speed, usually at half. Only burnt 1 M-disk, 1 BD-R, and a pair of REs, ( plus gobs of CD's - DVDs ).
Burn, verify, and post ( paranoia ) check all no trouble. Only 25 GBs, as the 50s cost too much and the 25s are big enough. ( usually )
Simple interface, doesn't fight or hide things, don't think that there is much that the hardware can do that it doesn't do gracefully.

I agree, I use CDBurnerXP[^] for 50 GB disks for backup, too. Verbatim all the way!

I have been following the daily CCC posts here but I have come to accept that it seems I shall never come to figure out how people work out their solutions.
Just below, I was trying hard to understand @Randor's explanation of how he worked out today's solution but uhhhhh it felt like alien speak.
So does this mean am too dump, am beginning to feel inferior

I found it hard to get into, and I'm still better at setting them than solving them! At first, I never thought I'd figure it out, but then I discovered there are actually some rules. For one thing, the definition (as in a regular crossword) has to be first or last, not in the middle, and the additional words help you figure it out, because it'd usually be too hard as just a straight crossword clue. One or more of the other words will be an "indicator" that specifies whether the solution involves an anagram, homophone, adding or subtracting letters, or something else.

No, it means that you are completely normal. People that are really good at solving puzzles tend to rate very high on the apophenia[^] scale. You have probably heard that there is a fine line between genius and madness. This is what they are referring to.
John Nash[^] is a great example of a guy that could solve equations (and puzzles) but could barely tie his own shoes. Unfortunately after many years John Nash began to see Aesopian[^] in everything he read.

I have been trying to solve them since ever they were introduced by the Dalek, and I solved my first one a couple of weeks ago (I think Griff took it from a kindergarten book, which explains my success). And there were much rejoicing.
I then had to write one and failed miserably, and I rewrote what I thought were good ones and they were solved almost even before the hamsters rendered my post properly.
English is not my first language and I think I am lacking the culture pieces bound to the language needed to understand and be able to solve CCCs

They sometimes involve British culture because they're an art form there, whereas regular crosswords are far more common on this side of the pond. You have to be alert to this. For example, team is a clue to include the letters XI, the number of players on what Brits usually consider a team, whereas any Canadian knows that it should clue for VI.
