Neat.
So apparently this is the place, but Google Maps doesn't show it. I thought Google Maps always showed the latest version, but it seems like the pictures predate the incident.
Google Earth however (the downloadable frontend) shows it if you go there and go to View / Historical Imagery.

I'm getting the sense that some (most) frameworks are just someone's attempt to keep from getting close and personal with something that can be quite satisfying.

Possibly. I was just going off of wiki's definition of what a framework is:
