Now I'm more confused. I googled belarus and an article came up about protests that look like protests everywhere else in the world.
How hard is it to just put a few words down to explain your post?

Actually, I still don't. A large percent of people protesting in the US are idiots and are in the wrong so some would claim they are fighting for their rights when in fact they are not. So, no, I have no idea what is the story in Belarus.
Everything could be solved if people would stop being idiots. Simple.

It's not the laws that are different, it's the application of them that is.
Why are Black people 5 times more likely to be stopped without cause than a white person? Why are the same number of Black people shot and killed by cops as White people, but only make up 13% of the population? Why are Black people 6 times more likely to be convicted compared to White people committing the same crimes? Why are Black people sentenced to 20% more prison time than Whites in the same situations?

Your stats are wrong. The same amount of unarmed Hispanics are killed by cops every year as are blacks but can you name even one of them? Almost double the amount of unarmed white people are killed by cops every year but can you name even one of them?

Why? Because a judge sees a black person and automatically thinks guilty? I think you are projecting here. And this is another statistic that cannot be tracked. If they committed the crime then they get sentenced or have better lawyers or whatever it is. But it's not a nation of judges who are all racist. That's the only way your narrative can stand, is to say that nearly all judges are racist. You really think that?

I don't smoke. I talk to my neighbor on one side of me that were attending the protests in Detroit and then the two cops, from two different departments, I live next to.

It's all over the news here in Europe. Demonstrations against corruption and violence by police and security services. Especially after another fixed election to keep the incumbent president in power.

I am not saying you are wrong but it is hard for me to believe that statement outright because in the US, our corrupt media will print that exact headline if a certain someone gets reelected. I don't know what the media is like in other countries but our media is so corrupt and full of lies that when someone posts something from the news it's hard to take it serious.

My statement was a generalisation of things written by different journalists, most of whom I know to be reasonably trustworthy. It is also echoed by politicians across Europe. And just as in the US there are elements of the media here that I never listen to, knowing that they are biased at the very least.

I had a discussion with a mate yesterday who's definitely an A type and all business. He can't stand a conversation where someone beats around the bush and things became extremely tense after a few poor choices of words from me. well - I thought they were excellently chosen. He begged to differ in no uncertain terms.
It turns out, after we'd both put the brakes on the conversation and did a real-time collaborative debug session on our conversation (how does the world survive without us developers making life logical??) that the issue was one of humour. Specifically, he doesn't get Aussie humour. At all.
Do you find conversations with those from a different culture a bit of a mine field? I honestly thought that with all of us interacting with half a dozen cultures over the course of our daily lives we'd mostly be over this issue by now, but the specific issue of humour seems to be something that I need to absolutely avoid for certain audiences. I'd get away with talking about sex, religion and politics better than I would cracking a joke in some cases.

Yes...many times.

Absolutely, a lot of humor just doesn't translate. It's what I call "culturally bound"
I run into that trying to understand humorous memes and jokes from Mexico for example.
On the other hand, sometimes it's funny, like when my hubby tried to explain the United States Easter celebration (including the Easter Bunny) to our friends who are Mexican nationals. Well one of them took to calling it "the stupid american rabbit of easter" (translated from Spanish to English of course) and now I call it the american rabbit of easter because it's funny.
Or maybe my humor doesn't translate.

You already know my opinion. A very good example is right below your thread. The joke below about mental health issues is bad taste considering at least one of our newest Lounge regulars admits to struggling with mental illness.
There are just some topics that should be avoided in a professional setting:
Body shaming jokes
Gender jokes
Political jokes
Sexuality jokes
Disability jokes

The difference as I see it is that Australian / English humour is often self-deprecating, whereas US humour is often aimed at making fun of someone else. In this context we (Aussie et al) can get away with a lot more (and can have richer and sharper jokes) because the only person we're putting down are ourselves (or ourselves collectively), whereas when a joke's targeted at someone you have to be very, very careful.
Having said that I know enough people back home ready and willing to sling the mud at someone directly...

0) say something sufficiently simple for them to understand
1) teach them what you mean, by way of expanded understanding
People that insist upon #0 - I wonder what they're like. I've the luxury of being able to refuse to participate with 'em.
