If this was a third-party hardware driver, I'd say delete the file (hook it up to another machine as a data drive in an external enclosure or through some other means) as that has saved me numerous times - not sure if it's luck, but if a driver file is missing the OS just keeps going and simply leaves the device in a disabled state in Device Manager.

But I'm reading that dxgkrnl.sys is part of DirectX, so I would NOT recommend that approach in this case.

As others have suggested, a Linux Live CD might help you determine whether you have faulty hardware, or just a bad Windows setup.
