Well, Cookies are "free", aren't they?
Changing to a proprietary token allows them not only continue selling the info they slurp from us (and probably slurp even more in the new era) but to charge other companies that want to slurp too.

Now Android is adopting Windows... ?? 
I only hope this is not the beginning of a possible fusion to create the biggest mega-corporation that will reduce the world governments to mere play toys and do what they want (even more than now) with us.
