This one is really puzzling. For the last 4 days I've been unable to automatically upload my rides to Strava (which has a licence to connect to Garmin's APIs) and I keep wondering "what's taking them?".
There servers were compromised. Databases and server files encrypted. All a big mess. And yet, I'm fairly sure they still control their DNS and they, I hope, can still do clean deploys of their codebase and database restores of their (offsite?) backups.
And yet they still aren't up. So what's missing? Are their backups also compromised? Have they lost access to their DNS? Or lost access to the code that runs their systems itself? It's an odd one and I'm sure the post-mortem will make for interesting reading for all those in DevOps.

FYI: You can manually upload .fit files from your garmin device to strava
They need to make certain all their systems are clean; this takes time, I would imagine their are also working with 3rd party to validate that their systems are all sanitized.
(and working with their insurances and lawyers to make certain they will not be sued.)
I'd rather be phishing!

Yeah, I've been doing that, but Strava only shows the basics: power, speed, elevation, distance and HR. It doesn't pick up any Garmin IQ app fields like SmO2 or power dynamics.

No, exactly that's the advantage of Garmin devices over smartphone apps: they can work totally offline, whether you are in a South Asian jungle or just somewhere in the German province...

You can do the same with smartphone apps, too. Just download beforehand the map for the area you're going to.

Depends on the app.
With Google Maps, that does not work well. If you do not believe that (since Google offers such downloads), try it yourself. Put your device into "flight mode", and then check. Great experience when even large rivers (like Rhine) are missing. No restaurants on the map either. Your "my places" collection not available. Etc.
True, with e.g. Osmand, that works.

I have done so. And it has worked well for me. Perhaps outside the US it's not so good.

Sounds like a good way to bring IntelliSense to its knees. But then again, I'm not sure I entirely understand his proposal because having URLs for everything seems kind of crazy. Everyone tends to reinvent the wheel, so which of the 68,596+ URLs do you choose from? And versioning?

If you've ever looks at the semantic web specs, (even the acronym OWL has the words of the acronym reversed), you would run away in horror. Applying this to source code? OMG. No elephanting way.
