Now look at how you get to it.
You'll be starting - probably - fro the home page, where "Ask a question" is in much larger letters on a Green background. Ignore that, it's probably relevant.
Then where shall I go? "Quick answers"? Nah ... too obvious.
"Discussions"? Nah. Just relevant forums and such.
"Community"? I dunno ... "The Lounge". That's the perfect place!
If you are searching for anything to do with a programming question, you land on a QA page or a relevant forum. Landing on the lounge takes actual effort for a newby - so why do they end up here and posting programming questions?
I'm guessing because they think they are far too important to have rules affect them ... but I could be wrong.

Actually no, the Community menu item links right to the Lounge. "Community" is the same term other sites use for the developer forums.
It happens often enough that you should realize it is not as clear as some of you think it is.

What I'm looking for is references to a few online go-to places for my computers stuff (and maybe other miscellaneous electronics).
Years ago I dumped Tiger Direct as their sleaze factor exploded.
Now, with each passing week, NewEgg gets every more disappointing. Prices aren't great and the product emphasis is shifting rapidly in the direction of Alibaba. Item descriptions often appear quite unvetted, One time I saw an item for US$ 0.99 - with $14.99 shipping. If I want that kind of garbage I can go to FleaBay. I'm a week or two from unsubscribing.
Anyway, does anyone know any good online sources (US as international shipping will kill the pricing pretty quickly).

I usually check amazon and newegg first. If I can't find what I want at either of those places then I resort to general searching at google and/or DDG.
One thing I have found to be important is to make sure the item is sold and shipped by the merchant in question. I have had less than positive results from third party resellers.

I'll occasionally accept 'shipped by' someone else - but I do insist that it be shipped from USA (vs the all too common China).
What I'd like is for the manufacturing location be specified. I wouldn't for example, ever want to buy Alkaline batteries from China - I had some, unused and well before their expiration date, leak in a drawer (fortunately, into a containing box).
More and more often, stuff from "over there" seems overpriced at free.

Unless one lives in the sticks, can't think of anything computer-related that I can't find locally for instant gratification. Electronic "parts", vacuum tubes, etc. is another matter; easier to find and order online. I prefer the ones that provide data sheets, etc. The quality of the web site (and spam) is usually a good indicator.

Granted, I live in the sticks, and the nearest store that sells anything computer related now that Radio Shack bit the dust is Staples, about 15 minutes away. Granted, Albany is 45 minutes away, but the days of an actual computer store that sold actual cool things? Gone.
The nearest Frys Electronics? Arizona! 
I remember when I lived in Palo Alto CA and I think that was the first Frys. They had a prototype of the 80386 processor on display behind plexiglass! And it was DIP - none of this surface mount stuff!

I never actually programmed a TRS-80, but still have a horror story about it.
When the TRS-80 was designed, home computers were unknown. The designers therefore used the FCC's standard for office equipment, which allowed the production of much more electrical noise than home equipment was allowed. By the time the IBM PC came around, these regulations had been updated.
I was doing some contracting work for the Israeli Meteorological Service, and they had a basic data collection system running on a TRS-80. When the IBM PC came out, they wished to upgrade the system - new sensors, expanded data processing capabilities, etc. I was contracted to write the PC code.
When the code was finished, I showed them that everything was working, and went home. By the time I got home, I had received an angry phone call that nothing was working anymore. It turned out that they were running the TRS-80 data collection system in parallel with the PC, to ensure that they were both processing data in the same manner. To cut a long story short, the TRS-80 produced so much electrical noise that it swamped the signal coming from the new sensors. All data recorded were garbage.
