Seriously, how come IT people don't seem to understand that just because they know a lot about computers doesn't mean everyone understands them and that they probably do not know much about other topics (except Star Trek maybe.) IT people can be so stupid.

It builds trust in Google and gets rid of the competition that isn't smart or powerful enough to steal your data "legally". So even if they didn't harvest your data on that site they could still profit.
