You have a point about the overall price of Paradox games if you want to get all DLCs. I'm playing the vanilla version of the game, which I bought four years ago; you don't have to buy each and every addon to have a great gaming experience.
On the other hand, Paradox edited several games I really enjoyed playing; it is not the first editor which comes into my mind when asked which ones I would avoid (when I thing about what EA made to Sim City...).

Factorio has been a good steam game of late. Resource and pollution management, automation, and a nice modding community. There's a free demo, too.

Making hats from human leather in Rimworld. Get attacked by man-hunting chickens. Tame a boomalope and have it explode in your bedroom due to flu. If that vanilla-experience sounds too tame, add some mods, like the Cthulu-mod.
Manage your colony, or, go on youtube and have fun watching others trying to.

I was about to say I don't see the link between the two, but then, I've been playing Grand Theft Auto Online quite a bit lately, and the more I think about it as I'm writing this, the more I realize it turns out if you want to make some serious headway and make good money in the game, then it's all about figuring out how best to spend the time you play the game.
But that might be a stretch for "management", since this is still an action game first and foremost...

And it's a weird feeling. I don't fit where I used to: 7Kg of weight loss has dramatically changed the shape of my seat interface, and my legs fit under the desk a load better.
I'm not fine - don't start thinking this is over yet, it's far off "normal" - I spent 2 hours trying to get a formatted email out and failing miserably (Every time I fixed the formatting on one bit, it changed somewhere else at random). Finally decided "that'll do", sent it and found I'd sent the guy an email that consisted only of "WTF" an hour and a half earlier that I didn't intend, and don't remember writing. That needed an apology email ... and round we go!
Typing is ... um ... poor - hunt and peck is quicker than touch typing due the huge number of errors I'm making - my head is seriously muzzy, coffee tastes like ... well, frankly I'm not sure, but actual coffee is not involved at all. Gawd I hope my sense of taste improves soon - it's like I have a mouth all done out with flock wallpaper and my tongue is sitting in a hot tub in leopard-skin budgie smugglers.
I'm definitely not up to dev work, and it'll be days before I even think of trying. And until I can trust my judgement there, I'll stay well clear of QA as I'm far too easily confused by normal people to risk approaching the Special Needs Kids ATM.
I have waded through my emails - all 1733 of 'em - and have just a line of 7 pretty red "deal with this" flags to work on later instead. Not touching those yet, they need my brain working properly.
But, we are getting better, in little steps - mine faster than Herselfs, but that's to be expected, she's older, and she was seriously overworked for a few months before we went down with this.
I'd seriously like to say a huge "THANK YOU!" to everyone here who has put up with my intermittent disease progress reports, and everyone who sent us messages of support and kindness. You know who you are and we love you all!

I was literally writing you an email to see how you're going so thank you so much for the update.
Take it easy and at the first sign of anything going downhill - anything - call your doctor. Too many stories (but putting in perspective, probably still highly unlikely) of people feeling better then 24hrs later it's all very, very bad very suddenly.
We've all been thinking about you at CodeProject so it seems like we're stuck with you for a while longer.
Thank goodness. I owe you a pint, and dammit, I'm paying that debt as soon as possible.
And bonus points for the use of the term budgie smugglers.
