It'd probably (eventually) wipe the board with dungeon-crawlers, hack & slash games, and Tetris, too, but the company's objective is probably to get it trained up on FPS games, because the long-term big bucks are in government contracts.

I wish schools would teach kids early that you cannot make yourself "better". You can behave more or less pleasantly toward others, you can learn to do things you don't know how to do, etc, but you can't intentionally make yourself "better", because we don't know the criteria for better and worse (or even if such criteria exist).
Religions and political movements answer the question "why are we here?" by providing lists of things that groups of people have decided are right and wrong -- but that's just people making stuff up, so it doesn't count.
And I'm pretty certain that there's a fair chance that you won't make yourself "better" by learning or not learning more about React.
The way I see it, you can't do other than do what you think is right, as long as it doesn't interfere too much with other people doing what they think is right, because you've got no way of knowing if you're right or they are (a certain-coloured person who lives in a certain-coloured house notwithstanding; there's no way the universe actually wants mendacious nutters like that, who ignore its rules because they want to believe something else).
Anyway, philosophy aside, I'm also a first-class carpenter and joiner, so, come the fall of civilisation, when you guys are consigned to wallowing in the pit with the telephone-handset sanitisers, etc, and begging for scraps, I'll be living it large, basking in the adoration of people who are desperate for functioning doors, windows, furniture, etc.

I would see what is needed in that moment and learn how to do it.
Having a house is something where you need to learn a bit on many things including several disciplines and handycrafts. So far the house is still there, so I guess I am not that bad at any of the things I have tried. With enough time I think I could master any of them, without being able to work in my current area, I would have the time.
I think the readyness and willing to learn can be more important than current knowledge, since it is what helps you adapt to new circumstances.

"AOT" (Aspect Oriented Programming) [^] is a metaprogramming technique used to achieve solutions to "cross-cutting concerns," like implementing logging, or, property change notification, in a way that the necessity for redundant code is eliminated, and functionality can easily be switched on/off ... and a lot more. PostSharp is a tool for .NET AOP that injects code at compile time and/or modifies MSIL. imho, if you are already familiar with using Annotations, you are using AOP.

Some 4 years ago, we started the new version of our product as a green field project. I asked my colleagues about the concepts we might use:
- Object oriented: Yes (though I later had to find out that they hardly understand it).
- Functional programming: what's that?
- Aspect orientation: what's that?
Though I like such concepts, I could not gain any practical experience with them at work.
How does PostSharp compare to Spring.Net and other frameworks?

Hi, Bernhard, I once tried out using Fody [^] , and didn't like it. Never used Spring.
Remember "Code Contracts" ? That's in the void, now: [^]; and Fody shows no activity in years.
imho, PostSharp is as powerful in its domain as ReSharper is in programming in Visual Studio.

Cool, unlike many I like a small, unobtrusive news ticker. It looks like this one might be configurable to be reasonably small.
Unfortunately (grrr) it's not yet downloadable from the UK. Even if you go to the US MS Store, it still won't let you download to the UK.
I used to use the BBC news ticker many years ago. Does anyone know of a configurable news ticker program that can take a feed from various sources? I've kind of missed it since the BBC new ticker ceased.
