I used zoom yesterday to help a co-worker with her code. It's fairly decent. And free.
Is Skype free?

It really is at the pre-school level.
I'd want to at least add:Item 6: AIs don't know what they're looking at, because, for example, pictures to them are just big arrays of numeric values, and they know even less about what they're doing and how they're doing it.
We don't have a clue how they do what they do, either.
What could possibly go wrong?

I fail to see what is so special about this wave of AI hype. They have been coming every few years since (at least) the 1970s: I bought the 1st ed (1979) of "Machines Who Think" as a student. The wave we had then was certainly not the first one!
Sometimes it is diguised under a different name. Does anyone remember the Prolog-based Japanese Fifth generation computer[^] mega-project? Later waves have been coined e.g. "Knowledge based".
The only difference I can see is that the seemingly never-ending series of unsuccessful AI projects gave the term AI a bad reputation; that is why more recent AI projects have been hiding under other, not as questionable, labels. Now it seems that AI people think that AI has had its name cleared and can be used again.
Certainly, each AI wave has brought forth new algoritms, data structures and methodologies. But at closer scrutiny, we have learnt that these are incremental improvements, not revolutionary, and still quite far from "intelligence".

I contest that wording.
It should be: "A crappy, annoying, near-useless settings app that has to call Control Panel applets 70% of the time, and a usable settings app that doesn't know how to lay items out alphabetically".
Time to re-disable wupdate on the tablet, then. It was annoying me, anyway, because every time I turned the tablet on (it's hardly one of my most-used tools), it would force an update (usually to break more of the things I use), and I'd end up just letting it finish, then switch it off again.
At least now I might get to actually use it for a few minutes, before switching it off.

Article has since been updated to clarify that all they've found is indications that a few more tiny bits are going to be replicated and defaulted to settings in the future.
As for the original claim... Well they finally replaced the last vestiges of Win 3.1 settings a few years ago (something to do with managing fonts). That took about 25 years; which would suggest that fully Win8/10ing settings is on track to be finished around 2035.

Even if some members don't sow confusion and dissent, the members of a big team get in each other's way. So if something is too big to be done by a small team, having an application framework that allows them to work fairly independently is important.
