Patents should be replaced by copyright. One problem is that patents don't allow for independent discovery. Never mind the trivial things for which software patents have been granted. Do you know that there's a patent on saving, in a buffer, the portion of a display that will be overlaid by another window, so that it can quickly be restored when the overlay is removed? Effing ridiculous.
