Some of the CS topics are taught within CS-related curricula like MSc Electronics (my case …  ).

I have a degree but I find I am having a lot of difficulty with software development.
I work at a software company but I can't say we're professionals.
I should know software design patterns but knowing how to apply them and really develop well-structured software is very difficult. (it becomes messy in no time)
I'm a programmer (and not a bad one, I think) but programming and software development are quite different things.
Anyone can learn a programming language but software development is an art.

What about those who only went through coding bootcamp? The bootcamp teach mainly hands-on stuff (like Git and web programming) and less on theory. They can get away without acquiring a lot of in-depth CS knowledge. Programming is one of rare industries where one can get a job without a formal education in CS.
Most importantly is to have the passion to keep pursuing knowledge on your own after work.

Me too, Mike!
After college I learned what "Hello World" would mean in reality. 
Nevertheless, we learned the programming logic and that is/was the base for all further languages in my developer life.

Except it was PL/360, Assembler and AlgolW. Out in the real world I went on to Basic through to C through to C++, SQL, VB (3 and 6!!) and then on to the dizzy heights of .NET (C#, VB.NET) with loads of detritus inbetween

Yep.
COBOL, FORTRAN.
Then ALGOL in year two, and a side of PDP-8 assembler.
C came along a load later, when the PC was released and cloned (for cheapness).

One of my first jobs when I came to Florida was to write the software to control a water treatment plant and my boss knew nothing about the business. We used a PDP-11/23 and ended up getting sued because the PDP was not powerful enough to run everything. I did 4 bigs jobs with this boss and we ended up getting sued on every one of them.
