Altough the real answer is "I really can't predict it". I don't see myself working on/for Mac in the foreseeable future but never say never.

I haven't touched a Mac before and I don't think I will use one in the near future (they're absurdly expensive and we have a predominant PC market here). Never say never, though...

But I personally, to a lot of extents would still prefer Visual Studio Code over Visual Studio for Mac. Visual Studio for Mac is a redesign — or renaming — of Xamarin Studio on Mac. Same tools, same frameworks, but of course we can expect more out of Microsoft in this.
I used it, but then I considered that I am better off with Visual Studio Code only.

Not enthused about it; but my work does a fair amount of Xamarin and the people experienced on the IOS side all say its easier to use Xamarin's IDE in MacOS than to use VS on a PC and a remote mac for testing. AIUI VS Mac is the spiritual successor to Xamarin's IDE; so I'll probably give it a spin when the time comes.

I think that I would need to be stuck in some messed up scenario where I was maintaining a legacy enterprise application and that enterprise decided to shell out the money to replace all workstations with Macs while also being too cheap to replace a legacy app or license virtualization software.
Of course we know somewhere out there some poor soul is in that exact situation.

I do .NET Core development on Windows and the Mac and use JetBrains Rider on the Mac (which is really good, even though it's an EAP version).
Maybe one day Visual Studio will be good enough to use for .NET Core development on the Mac (it did very little - not much more than Xamarin Studio - when I last looked at it).
Now is it bad enough that you let somebody else kick your butts without you trying to do it to each other? Now if we're all talking about the same man, and I think we are... it appears he's got a rather growing collection of our bikes.

I can already do cross platform with Swift.
I made the decision to stop doing .Net a few years back and have never had a reason to look back. Everything I do now is primarily done in either Java or Swift.

I'm not sure your definition of 'cross platform' is the same as most of us. Can your Swift code run on Android and Windows?

swift can run on the various OS's produced by Apple and as well on Linux. There is an unofficial port of swift on windows and there are already multiple ports and examples for Android.
when you say run on windows or android though what are you referring to?
I don't think you have a complete of understanding of swift, how it gets compiled and its ability for instance to pull in libraries written in other languages.

Will never use it, because we work in a Microsoft Windows development environment. My company pays for everyone to have Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 and TFS. So we rock!

I think I gave it more than a fair chance.
The installer fetched more than 4GB, and I repeatedly had to hit Retry after it reported failures (timeouts just trying to download files, for the most part). Nothing wrong with my connection as I was able to download other files from elsewhere at full speed.
Bottom line - I never got past the installer.

At present, I'm a software developer not a millionaire.
The only way I can see myself ever owning a Mac is if my premium bonds come in.
If my premium bonds do come in, I'll be a millionaire not a software developer.
As such, it's rather hard to see me ever using VS on a Mac, but never say never ...
