Hello,
Is it possible that I can have a process running on Windows XP Home that does not appear in the Windows Task Manager?
If so, how can I detect such processes?

Yes, it is possible but I hope Mircrosoft will fix it soon! I know of no way of detecting it but if it is a problem to you then contact me and we will find some solution.

If you use VB:
To hide the program from the Taskmanager write the below code in the form load.
App.Taskvisible = False
[Edit: ok, you will see it in Processes but by selecting a strange name for it, it will be difficult to find]

It does work, no trace of the process in Task Manager, however it is still shown in the Process Explorer (sysinternals)

I've installed a new harddrive but I can't see it in My Computer. It is visible in BIOS and Device Manager. It is not formated as many of my friends say I have to do. But HOW?
In Disk Manager there is no way to format the drive (what I can see)!

You may have to partition the drive first.
Right-click on the drive in the bottom pane in the Disk Management applet, and select 'Create Partition' (I think thats what the option is, I don't have an blank drive handy)

Yup, I clicked enter as instructed. You can see it because you have an account on the server - I don't. Make sure the file has IUSR_YOURMACHINE in its list of authorized users, and that the folder is enabled for websharing.

I'd right-clicked on the file and choosed Properties->File Security->Anonymious access and authentication control and pressed the button named Edit. Then I see Anonymous access is marked and that account for anonymous access is IUSR_MALIN (my computer name is Malin).
So,, why doesn't it work?
I have an exe in the dir also, http://duden.mine.nu/vncviewer.exe which I can download without any login.

Ok, I wasn't able to get the screenshot either, but recently installed few drives on my Win2k machine and have a fair idea of the steps.
Go to Start and Run --> compmgmt.msc and OK.
Go to Disk Management -> Right click on the SHADED area and go to Create Partiton.
Then you should see the drive on the Explorer, just format it and that should do.

Has anyone figured out a way to run a rule right after a send/recieve has executed? I am trying to sort mail but I have to run the rule everytime I send/recieve.

G'Day Roger, I hope the fishing went well today. Yes I know you don't actually wake up for another 50 minutes or so, stop being so pedantic.
I have a hardware question for you which I hope you can help me on.
I got my hands (legally) on a second hand machine for my wife. AOpen case, GA-6VTE+ motherboard, Pentium III 733MHz CPU, 256MB Kingmax PC133 SDRAM, 10GB HDD (got another identical one in the cupboard), 32MB AGP card, internal modem, NIC, SCSI, CD-RW. All for $200.00, problem is the power switch is missing.
I believe these are mometary switches, and plan to buy or make one instead of buying a new case as I'm doing this on the cheap. I have searched around and found this[^]. I am hoping I can use it to make the switch I need. I plan to rip out a front panel wire from one of the useless shells at work, one with a two pin plastic connector at the end. Then just solder the wires to the two probes on the back of the switch.
What in my amazing plan have I missed?
Why will it blow up in my face?
What would you do if faced with this catostrophic problem?

I don't see any problem with this at all, Michael. I assume that this is a ATX case and MB, so you don't have to be concerned about large currents, and the 3A rating is much more than adequate. Using an SPST switch, polarity is not a problem, either, so there's very little that can go wrong. I don't see any mention of it, but I assume that the switch you selected is a normally open type - there isn't much call for a normally closed momentary action switch. Have fun!

Wouldn't have a clue, I picked what looked like the smallest plainest switch that should fit behind the front panel of the case. I decided I didn't need any LED's or fancy crap like that. I will ask the bloke down the store what type it is before I buy it.

Just got off the phone to one of the sales people in Jaycar and they recommended this[^]. Does this seem right to you? It doesn't seem to be a momentary switch and I'm having troubles getting past the price. $11.25 for the switch versus $37.50 for a whole new case.
Just need to have a talk to the wife. I've already used up my dollars till paydfay next week. Will have to see if she will part with the dollars since the computer is for her anyway.
