I had a co-worker (maybe 30 at the time), that quit her job because she "only wanted to work with new technology" when asked to learn and support a legacy system written in FORTran on an ALPHA/VMS platform.
And.. these 10+ years later, the application is still in use. There are plans to replace it, but that requires a large expenditure of time and money at multiple sites.

As with many of these old systems, I cannot think of a new technology I would have any confidence will be around in another 20 years. Computing is in a sorry state when that is the case.

You're not wrong at all. I was kind of disappointed at how little he said he would do differently. In previous interviews I have seen, he admitted that he wished he had seen of the existing literature on the subject of hypertext and hypermedia, because it would have avoided some mistakes.

The benefits of the Windows UI and the ability to break out of the 640K straightjacket was significant enough to cause widespread adoption of new standards, not only in the operating system and interface, but in the applications that were commonly used at the time. Because JavaScript and polyfills ought to be enough for everyone?
