I get 5 weeks as well. I voted for 4 weeks because my company offers no sick time at all, and no maternity/paternity leave. Those were not of course included, but deducting a week for those matters leaves me with 4 'real' vacation days.

Same here, although it's possible I move to 6 weeks next year, since I just had my 25th anniversary  .

have 30 days a year, plus the holidays from special days + company set "bridge-days" (roughly 8 a year) + a 12 days with flexitime or 24 fridays with flexitime 
Although this is very nice i guess the payment suffers from that

We have 3 weeks paid leave granted by organization, but when I apply for leave they always say "We have to do urgent task, and dead line is blah blah...enjoy holidays on weekend"
I have 15 unused leaves each year (and it is not recompense  )

Here in Austria we have 5 weeks paid on paper (6, if you work for more than 25 years) and we are more or less forced to consume them, as there may not be left overs (this is decided per company).
it's hard to plan a 8-weeks-trip to australia or the u.s. if you can't accumulate two years holidays 
In reality there are some additional single days we can consume so it sums up to roughly 6 weeks (a bit more) per year.
in a "standard" year this means 3 weeks in summer and one or two around christmas, the remaining days are used for short breaks in spring and fall.
yes, austria and germany are fine countries when it comes to vacations

Well, here in Switzerland is the other way around.
I'm forced to take the vacations (4 to 5 weeks) at most until March of next year.
On top of that, I buy 1 to 2 extra weeks every year and by the end of December, they are all gone.
Back in Portugal, I knew some situations like yours but never as extreme.
That can't be even legal, but I guess then it will be between like that or unemployed.

In Germany, we are forced/requested to go on vacation if we don't take it to save money for the company

If they don't want you taking time, then you need to find somewhere else to work. Life is too short to devote all of your time to work and not to your family or your happiness.
I have been in your position, working for years at a time. Once I got to 40 years old my body told me I could not do it anymore. Currently, I have 4 weeks vacation, 2 weeks sick, 4 days personnel. I took my first vacation to Thailand for 2.5 weeks in October and it was very wonderful. It relieved much of my stress.

Isn't that illegal? They are essentially making you work without pay. Is there some compelling reason why you don't move on to a better place (like the pay being good)?
