If I compare myself against the other developers I've worked with, in terms of skills, ability and pay, I'm very underpaid.
If I compare myself against the management and business types that tell me what to do in terms of contribution to the success of the project/company and pay, I'm severely underpaid.
Seeing how much so many very useless people make compared to my pay is just depressing really.
But like others, I keep it in perspective - I make enough to live a comfortable life and take care of my family.

I have my own software business and with 35+ years experience if I added up all the time I spent doing my job and divided it into the earnings would probably be somewhere near minimum wage lol - but I wouldn't swap it to be an employee again - ever

I checked not paid enough only because I know there are other places that pay more. However, I still joke at times that people will pay me to do something that is so much fun.
I try to explain it to like getting paid to play video games or something like that.

Pay is only one aspect of a job. It's the price that the management places on the work that needs to be done. But are "you" being paid what you are actually worth? Everyone does a job differently. It's not one size fits all. Some are bored and just get by. Some are pushing the envelope and adding value despite not being asked to do so. Some are pushed into a doing things that they know are bad designs but that's what the boss wants...
I'd be more interested in how many developers find satisfaction in their jobs. At the end of the day, do you feel good about the work you've done and feel you are being compensated for it at the right level? Or are many developers out there chained to old applications and having to maintain ancient systems with little chance to grow and experience new technologies? Pay is one thing. Growth is quite another.

Need some context to answer the question truthfully.
Are you paid enough within the context of society? Very few of us could honestly answer 'No' to that. Most people, I imagine, are grinding out business applications which don't improve humankind.
Are you paid enough within the context of other options? I really can't see how people in this field spend the money they make. From that perspective, I'm terribly overpaid. However, I have a simple lifestyle and don't have a lot of needs. For those who have a problem in that area, I'd suggest looking at your spending, not your income.
Are you paid enough within the context of your company? In other words, do you receive compensation in line with the value you provide to your company, both relative to other IT-types and relative to sales, management, etc-types?
Are you paid enough within the context of IT? In other words, do you receive compensation at a level commensurate with your ability/experience/productivity within the area you work, across companies/geographic areas?
Ultimately, keep in mind that pay in only one aspect of a compensation package, and compensation is only one aspect of a work environment. You have to know what's important to you, and that will likely vary over time. After a while, money goes way down the list of importance, and it's more about liking the work itself, the people with whom you work, etc.

Especially the part about not having money being more about your spending!
There is one other part of getting paid. Sports Figures get "rent" more than salary. They get paid because their name alone adds value. There is still an aspect of that in the work we do. We don't have failed projects BECAUSE of how we approach them. There is a TON of value in that. We do NOT get compensated enough when you include that. (We are currently doing a replacement project for one that Overran their budget by 80% and FAILED to work with an additional 6 months of trying to save it. For the record, we are finishing it this month, 1 month ahead of our schedule, and 3 months faster than the original vendors initial quote. And the users really like it!)
I would say we don't make what we could. But we are not greed driven either. Good work, Good Relationships, and a long-term view of the relationship with clients.

Salary can be dependent to location. For what I make now in San Francisco I'd be living in a cardboard box and earning less take home pay than panhandling in the Tenderloin. But doing the same job in the U.S. Midwest with cost of living a fraction of California I do quite well, no complaints.
The job wasn't as advertised but that's not unusual in the programming business. I'd be happier if it was closer to the promises but it's good enough as is. I'm not paid because I can write C# code but because I have a history of delivering commercial products (or so the manager tells me).
Being an expert in some esoteric programming skill may justify exorbitant salaries, for a while, but things change and it's tough to justify paying one expert whose skills are no longer needed 50% more than the rest of the programmers. For those complaining about not being paid enough, just remember there's plenty of competition and what you think is a valuable skill isn't proving out when tested in market conditions.

I have to assume that English is not your first language.
The first limit in how high you can rise, is simply the limit for your to communicate clearly ABOVE the people you are working with. (ie, you have little room for promotion if your bosses can't stand to listen to you!)
I will say you are paid what you agreed to work for. Raise your standards. But keep in mind that the highest paid people are also UNEMPLOYED most often. As my salary doubled and tripled, I found I had weeks without work each year. I look forward to them now...
An organization should only pay what they feel is beneficial to them. We pay our people only slightly better than average. BUT we offer decent bonuses (for getting stuff done), and we, in general, do not ask people to work over time. (But we expect a FULL DAYS programming every day),
and our programmers are kept out of all meetings they do not request!

Yes, English is not my first language that's why i suffering as communication and sir i am growing my learning and coding ability. now a days my standard not brilliant but much better as required for a company but my present work place is not good and also my boss mind set is very low he think pay low and work more. he also demotivate me and my team. i am really frustrated.

Years ago, I was frustrated, and then I discovered the formula for frustration!
Frustration = (Reality - Expectations) * EGO; -- Negative is BAD (Frustrated)
It says 2 things.
First, you are NEVER frustrated when REALITY when Reality is BETTER than you Expect.
Second, when you are frustrated, your EGO makes it worse!
There are 2 simple solutions:
1) Drop your expectations that things should be different than they are!
2) Reduce your EGO (which is your THINKING that you should be able to CONTROL reality)
Once I discovered this formula, I realized the key.
Only I can make me feel frustrated!!!
If your manager does not see you as smart. Then do NOT expect him to.
Do not TRY to get him to see you as smart. Just work on YOU. Make yourself better FOR YOU,
not for him/her.
The other phrase I love is: "Change your environment"
In English this can have 2 meanings:
1) Fix the things around you that you need to fix
2) GET A NEW Environment (like changing your job)
I love it, because if you can't do one, you MUST do the other!
You have some thinking to do. About what you want, and how to get there.
Finally, the universe is a MIRROR. It reflects back to us what we already believe.
Change your beliefs, and you will change your Universe!
