ASP.NET code runs entirely on the web server. It generates the HTML that is sent to the browser.

"Front end" refers to code on the server that generates the HTML. It can also refer to either browser-side code, mainly javascript and HTML. "Back end" usually refers to some data store, like a SQL database, and the code that interacts with it. This code is sometimes called "middleware".

ASP.NET code can be written in any language that targets the .NET Framework, not just C# though it's the most popular.
