I agree with Abhinav S. Get a starters book somewhere and read it from A-Z. Don't start out too specific (like WPF or WCF), but rather a "Learning .Net with C#" kind of book.

Their are many standard publications who have good books but you should always buy books with label like beginner guide or absolute beginner guide or guide for dummies(no offense) and yes you must start with core c#, it hurts me too much when some random guy show up for interview and fail to explain Object callings and references.

Hi, i'm making text editor in c# with wpf. The editor apply changes (bold, italic, fontsize) only text selected for user.
how can I make the change occurs before typing the text in editor ?!

So, what you have in mind is that there is no text currently selected, but the Textbox has focus, and the insertion point is set somewhere, and you press a button, or something, and then the next characters you type are in bold, italic, etc., depending on what buttons you pressed ?

What have you tried so far ? What are you doing now, in code, that sets the selected text to bold, italic, etc. ?

Then, remember Word when press "I" for the Italic the cursor change and the text to. In my case i need input text and after select all text e press "I" for changes. But i want to work as the Word.

Now i use ApplyPropertyValue();

I want to design SSIS component when i load the package.
My goal is to reproduce the components contained in a package when I load it.
The package is loaded by c# , winform application , i can load package ( doc.LoadXml(packageXml))

When the xml is loaded, I retrieve the layout of the package and its components. . With the layout, I can get the coordinates of the component and redraw one by one.

How to put 2 copies of same dataset on a form

I need to put 2 copies of the same dataset on a form. Then I can bind my 2 grids to one copy each and I can then supply different parameters to each dataset on the fill. I can't figure out how to get the second copy of the dataset onto the form... can someone advise please?

I think datasets have a method that's called copy and clone. see here[^] it effectively takes a deep copy of the object.

Hi everyone,

I have xml string like this:

Do you know how can do that (I don't want to use a for/foreach statement to check)

Hello all,

Looks like this is a basic question that I somehow is not able to figure it out properly. The method I am using works for Hex numbers that does not contain 0 in its lower byte.

I guess I have to use a different approach to get around this problem, which I am not able to quite figure it out.

I am reading values off of an IC which pushes out serial data in bits and the total length of the output is always 16bits which are read into two bytes. So, when the value is 255 its fine when I convert it into integer. But when the output from the chip is equivalent to 256, it turns out to be '1' in Upper byte and '0' in lower byte which is not being converted to 256 but rather to 16 using the following code.

string hexValue = In[0].ToString("X") + In[1].ToString("X");
int hscandacvalue = int.Parse(hexValue, System.Globalization.NumberStyles.HexNumber);

Any suggestions?

The problem with this is that it turns eg 0x01 (as a byte) into the string 1, and then the leading zero is lost. That's a problem, because you're concatenating in front of it. You could fix that by using X2, but don't.

But you don't need any of this weird string business anyway, you can simply use math (lowbyte + 256 * highbyte)

hi folks,
i want a general idea of how to create a server-client environment in window application(c#.net). So what i am looking for is:
1. A sample mini project so far none found on google Mad | :mad:

2. what technology should i use udp/tcp/socket layer or something else.
3. how does client A gets notification of SQL update by client B ;when both are viewing/working on same table. So the record can get an auto refresh or something like that.

Don't make this too hard. I wrote one a few years ago and started like you are. I wanted PC-A to tell everyone else that it had just made a change.

But the easy was is for each pc to monitor the db and find the changes on it's own. You don't need any network code to handle that. For me it could be a few minutes behind so it worked great.

can you re-create the given sample for a simple test table in sql, yesterday one of my friends told me to just share connection string path to server as one approach to do the thing ; But will it be on the same performance with socks?
