QuestioniOS webapp with offline appcache. How to create authenticated wcf service call. Pin

I'm building an iOS HTML5 Webapp for a customer. It can run completely offline, which was one of the main requirements. To have them manipulate data I'm using WebSql. Although I need to plan for a future change to indexedDb, for now it works fine.

The only puzzle piece I dont have is how to sync the data back in a secure way. I've made the sync silent. So the user wont have to do anything to keep the data in sync when the connection comes backup. It all works fine, but in the current setup the site is configured for anonymous acces.

The page they have to install it from(e.g. Put on home screen) I could implement forms authentication. But then the user would need to relogin everytime the iPad would come back online to sync.

Unless I set a really long time on the authentication cookie. But I don't really know if that would be harmfull.

Is it harmfull to leave the asp authentication cookie valid for a longer period?
Does anyone have another good idea to make this secure, without the user needing to relogon?
