I too did this for years (at home) until I discovered how easy it was to set up VisualSVN[^] and the AnkhSVN[^] VS plugin (both free). Trust me, you'll never go back!

Agreed, have used AnkhSVN for years and it's a very good product.

Yeah, I used all that stuff too in my last job. I found it hard to use and cumbersome and makes VS run slower.

I did that in the late 1990s however when my projects became more complex I moved to CVS then to SVN.

Really, I even use it on personal projects nowadays. Unless you're the mythical infallible programmer, it always pays to be able to backtrack.

None isn't entirely truthful, I just zip everything up from time to time and store that. I don't recall the last time I ever had to restore anything from those archives though. There was no source control when I started programming (other than restoring from 12" tape back ups which could take an age) so I suppose I got used to not using it.

As a matter of fact, even if I checked "Subversion", I have some almost never evolving legacy projects in a VSS repository, without drama. A couple checkins a year, but still...

yes , we use SourceSafe and since one year subversion, but we move to mercurial in the next 6 month. What about IBM's ClearCase? I worked 5 years, not an easy tool but very powerfull, I miss it.

Not only are we stuck on version 6 for some reason... We have Visual Studio 2010 connecting to it.  I didn't even know that was possible before starting here.

Still do here but desperately trying to get management to invest in something more current. The size of the Add File dialog was a source (pun not intended) of amusement today. Tip, don't use deep folders!

I'll give you a hint: I edited one of the SourceSafe DLL's in Visual Studio's resource editor and fixed the dialog size problems.

I've used a variety but just by using them doesn't mean that I'd re-use or recommend them, and in fact some I'd avoid like the plague.
