The Weird and The Wonderful

The Weird and The Wonderful forum is a place to post Coding Horrors, Worst Practices, and the occasional flash of brilliance.

We all come across code that simply boggles the mind. Lazy kludges, embarrassing mistakes, horrid workarounds and developers just not quite getting it. And then somedays we come across - or write - the truly sublime.

Post your Best, your worst, and your most interesting. But please - no programming questions . This forum is purely for amusement and discussions on code snippets. All actual programming questions will be removed.

Sometimes the code does not get correctly "reflected" by the Reflector, perhaps it is just a Compiler Optimization or so.

I was actually using ILSpy, which normally does not change the IL to be more readable.

The C# compiler will never re-introduce a local, an assignment to that local, and a subsequent null check. If it had some form of CSE, I would expect the former 2, but the null check is completely redundant. On the other hand, the introduced local is also redundant as the value of name in the branch can on be "Zone". Poke tongue | ;-P

It could be that this was written in VB.NET.
