Hi, hoping someone can give me hint to solve this. I have a multiview web control in a aspx page with in master page. each view with in multiview has ascx page. by default first index of the view is set to active. as the page needs to go though the standard page life cycle so it will run all page load events of ascx even though i sent the first view to be active view. in one of the ascx page with in the view has a repeater control and i am loading a data in page load event in that ascx and its being executed everytime even though this control is not with in active view.
so in aspx active view index change i added a dataload function for this page so when this the control is in the activeview the data source get bind to the control. these all is working fine. my problem is how do i get the updated dataset from ascx to aspx so i could store it in session or something without adding any function in page load event of user control. please help

In the ascx control you can have a public property that can return a dataset, if the databind is called already and null if it is not called. from the page you can directly use this property to get the dataset out of the control.

but repeater control has drop down list, textbox and are editable and I need to get the value of them as well. how do I do that?
here is a details of my issue
ViewState is disabled through out the entire aspx page
Page contains a multiview control which has views and views has user controls
prev and next button
clicking prev or next button saves current data (SET()) within user control and loads data(GET()) of next user control (if it has any)
one of the user control in a view has editable repeater control. in page load of this control I am binding the repeater as
Repeater.DataSource = List of object
Repeater.Databind()
The problem is, this page load is being called disregard the view being active or inactive.
So I need to bind the repeater else where in the user control
so in my GET() function in aspx (where I load the user control with repeater) I bind the repeater by declaring repeater object as property in ascx as
Me.RepeaterAsProperty.DataSource = List of object
Me.RepeaterAsProperty.DataBind()
I removed databind codes from ascx. upto now it works all good.
When I click next button when this user control is active, I need to save modified data with in this repeater. so in SET() function
I run a loop to get Me.RepeaterAsProperty.Items which is empty. I dont know how to get this working.

I have a dropdownlist where I could choose between, daily, weekly and monthly. I verified that the query string is being passed from my jquery code to my receiving page, but sadly it won't proceed to my GetDailyData method. But when I choose Monthly, it works just fine. I put a break point at line:
stringdate = Request.QueryString["date"];
but I can't see its value. I've been trying to debug this for 2 days but I can't figure it out. Thank you guys!

My first guess is that your the case "Daily" wasn't met; this might be because of the value in ddlRptType.
So, please send me the markups of your page.

OK before asking the real question, I will give a brief overview. There was a site which was running on a single web server. This site was using in-proc session for keeping track of some important information(very crucial).
After a couple of years the website was getting a lot of traffic(around a couple of millions per day) and all these hits are actually doing some DB operations on the site. So to keep the performance the single server was replaced by a server farm. Now there are 5 servers sitting behind a load-balancer.
Now the problem: Earlier when only one server was being used all the session handing was in-proc. Now in the server farm scenario, we cant expect it to work properly. We will have to have SqlServer or stateSercer in place. The problem in doing this is that there are lots and lots of classes, collections and generics being pushed into the session. If we want to use any of the above two we will have to make everything put in session serialize-able(which would mean a lot of rework and most importantly it will take time).
Now I was thinking that till these session objects are getting changed(to become serializable), I will do something at the load-balancer to redirect requests coming from an IP to the same server always so that the in-proc session will keep working for the time being. i.e. load balancer will keep a map like [requesting IP - web server]
The question here is, Am i going in the right direction or there are some problems I could not foresee? Is there any other way I could have things working with in-proc session for a couple of months(having something done on load-balancer)
Experts, please suggest. Shall I go with this IP-server mapping or is there any other way this could be done more elegantly?

It's not my solution but I will give here little bit input as per my understanding.
I will suggest put your efforts and go with OutProc session because when server is running behind the proxy server then you will never get the actual requested IP address (client IP). So it can be an issue and hoping you know the worker process recycle issue with InProc.
Therefore put your efforts once go for good solution instead of temporary.

We have plans for putting out-proc session handling in place but for that we need to change the code and that will take time. And believe me the portal I am talking about it constantly being developed for 6 years and it has millions lines of code so it will definitely take time.
I need something for stop gap management. till the time these changes are being done Can I put something to have the problem "not-so-evident"

Have you actually tried changing the web.config to use a db for your session state? Session objects are already serialized even when done in proc so you may not have to change anything.

Yes I have tried that and I beg to differ on the serialization of objects when used in-proc. The in-proc session handling des not requires the objects to be serializable. Only stateServer and SqlServer mode does.
We infact are working on making things serializable but I need to use web farm asap and thus i need something to be done to have a temporary fix.

It does serialize, but you are right, some more complicated objects do not serialize. What you said reminded me that I did have to do what you are doing years ago with .Net 2.0. We had one class that would not serialize into the State Service. All of our other classes did.
Good luck. I would suggest just testing each class instead of spending time making everything manually serializable. Some might actually work fine.

I have a C# 2010 web application that was created and tested using cassini the default web server in visual studio.net 2010. I am planning to deploy the web application using the web setup and deployment project template since that is the way the application is currently deployed in production.
I now want to deploy the web application to iis on my workstation. (I want to complete this task since I have never worked with a web project for deployment in the past and i am the only programmer at my company. I basically want to see how this works for production so I will know what to do when I deploy my enhancements to production. )
I know that IIS 7 that is compatible with II6 is installed on my workstation since the network administrator installed IIS for me. He not did run the command to make certain iis communicates with asp.net
Now I have the following questions:
1. Since the network administrator installed IIS for me, does that mean IIS runs as a server on my workstation like it does it production? If not, can you tell me what else I would need need to do and/or else what else I need to learn?
2. Since I have a web setup and deployment project, can you tell me if I need to point the the deployment package to where iis is running? If so, can you tell me what parts of the deployment I need to point to IIS?
3. Can you tell me and/or point me to a reference that will tell me where iis is acutally located at?
4. Once have have the deploy package communicating with IIS, how would I run the deployed web application so that I know it is using IIS as the web server instead of using cassini?

Very first I would like to know here where is you production server.
Are you planning to go for shared hosting server OR dedicated server?
because in share case most of the provider doesn't provide installation through the setup therefore you need to upload the either published OR deployed project on server OR upload all files.
In case of dedicated server you can deploy your application through setup and it's should work as you are doing in local environment.

When I look at the network administrator's notes for supporting the production webiste for this small company, he is supplied with a setup.msi and application.exe files from the programmer that used to work at this company. I am planning to do the same thing. This means he is using a dedicated server.
A few more items:
1. This is a small company. So we are using only one dedicated server. We do not have two share.
2. This webiste uses meta data file since it has not been upgraded from IIS 6 to IIS 7.
Thus there are alot of files that are shared. Do you mean this is the 'upload of all files' from the question you asked earlier?

I am using following style sheet, still its not printing. Can anybody please help me?

Is there any way to make src in the img tag as background image and print it on the paper. Because Img tag is occupying some space in the webpage, but I dont want the image to be like that. I just want it in the background. And when I put it as background-image in the body tag its not printing.
