What exactly means work ?
Is it how much output( business value) produced or just sitting in front of office computer or attending meetings/Trainings ?

It depends on the nature of the work, for a manager meetings are more important than debugging a code. An untrained programmer will be spending more on debugging than actual production. So what you mean by business value?. The business value is not just a value at one point of time. It is the rate of improvement over time.

If I work exactly 40 hours, which answer is better? 20-40h or 40-60h?
On average I work 40 hours per week, it depends on project.
When I did some freelancing, I used to work around 50 hours a week.

The answer to that is more-or-less yes. My health makes it impossible to do anything related to labor (i.e. Blue collar) and also limits the amount of time I can physically do anything. I can, however, work part-time at jobs most often classified as White collar. My skill-set is IS/IT with 20+ years of programming and SyAdmin. There aren't many, if any, part-time positions in those fields, though. Also, at 48, I'm getting a little aged for this career field. At least for any jobs I might be able to do. Given the option, companies would rather hire someone young right out of college than an old(er) cripple who's been unemployed nearly 6 years. Between my physical limitations and the discontinuity between my skills and the potential jobs openings, it's been a no-win scenario.
Not that I'm feeling down about it.

Retrain yourself.
Learning .net, java or just about any web language is free and easy #titter#. If you're on retirement income you could probably get funding for a correspondence college ocurse. I heard there's this one web site[^] that has loads of resources that you can use.

That is what I'm in the process of doing, actually. In the fall of '08 I enrolled at Westwood Online and am getting a Game Software Development degree. Whether or not I end up as a programmer of some kind, having a degree will allow me to be a substitute teacher in the county school system. And no matter what happens, I can still do the Indy game thing. The only real problem is that we may run out of money before I can finish the degree. It's getting harder to pay the mortgage, buy food & pay the necessary utilities with a limited income.
I need to find a nice, rich widow.
