The buttons that do stuff on the server should be server controls <asp:Button>. The buttons that do something only on the client should be <button>. Anything that needs to be reference by both, like the calculator readout should be server controls and your javascript functions can refer to them using document.getElementById('<%=yourControlName.ClientID %>').

Hi guys,
I have written a function on onbeforeunload which uses setTimeout('myclose=false',100); - which should set the myclose variable as false afte 100ms interval.
But when I navigate to some other page from this page, it sometimes is not set as false and remains true - this behaviour is uncertain but usual one.
The strange thing is that when I put breakpoint in visula studio and just debug linebyline , it is set set to false always.
So i added sleep for 2000ms, afte settimeout call, but all in vain ...
So what can be the reason ?

I haven't tested it, but I believe the problem is the page is being unloaded before the script has a chance to execute. Try returning false from the onbeforeunload to prevent it from completing.

Actaully there are 5 tabs on my page - say A, B, C, D and E (which are separate pages in itself).
I will tell you exact situation.
When I navigate from tab A to tab C - then this problem is seen.
But when I do same from A to D or A to E, function works well.

Why are you using onbeforeunload when navigating between tabs? It makes no sense. Perhaps you need to explain more or re-think your architecture.

It is not a case of just ignoring it, i was merely trying to advise so it doesn't happen again.

This is invalid syntax. In your example, myclose=false is a string and would need to be evaluated, which is not what setTimeout does. You should replace this with a function call which performs the actual operation instead.

How can we make our search page in site be indexed in google ?
the page would get the search query via querystring as a url encoded string then decode it to show the reasult for search .
I wonder how it should be introduced to google to index that page with different search queries ?

Have to admit I'm somehwat surprised it works in them - but Firefox has a pretty good Error console built in you know - look on the Tools menu. That straightaway tells you that the problem is that "Display" is undefined (Hence my "somewhat surprise".)
You need to define this before any of the functions are called but after the page loads - so either add another script block at the foot of the page with just
var Display = document.getElementById("Display");
in it, or add this Iwithout the var) as a one-line function in your block at the top and call it from the body onload method. - if you do it this latter way, you'll need to also define
var Display;
separately as a global variable outside the function.

I just tried. The first calculation works, any subsequent one doesn't.
I think your logic is flawed when you calculate, think about when you use a normal calculator. The result is put back into the first operand. if another digit is then pressed instead of an operation the operand is cleared and you start to loadup the new 1st operand.

twitter probably has it's own iframe checking code to break out of it because they do not want you to use it that way, it's why they came up with their API.

I'm working on a WPF program and I have a frame that reads an html file that I have included in the project. In the html file there is an input box.

Is there anyway I can make the value something I can change in the rest of the program, say back in the .cs file, instead of just a constant set number placed there, like if I want to change the number based on user input? I won't know all the numbers it will need to be ahead of time.

Hi,
I am using Javascript to open up the default mail client and start an email eg
string mailto = "mailto:?Subject=Link to your order&Body=Here is the link to your order" + Request.Url.ToString() + "?Id=323498;
ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(UpdatePanel1, typeof(string), "mailto", "window.open('" + (mailto) + "');", true);
This works well and I get an email sent through with the hyperlink visible (and clickable - yay!) What I want to do however is to provide Display Text for the hyperlink so that whilst the underlying URL is eg http://www.google.com?id=323498 the text visible to the recipient is Your Link or something appropriate. So it is the same concept as in Outlook when you Insert Hyperlink, you provide the Address but you can also provide Text to Display. (Same in GMail etc).
Any ideas how to achieve this?
