As I'm sure you know the difficulty is keeping the uplaod active while navigating to another page. The thing the pops to mind (pun intended  ) is a popup window to handle the upload, however that could be blocked by browser settings, etc.
Although its just a variation on the the same idea you could use ajax calls to refresh the content.

What if you just open a new pop window and allow the users to upload the files in the popup window

I have an application built using classic asp. I built a page using asp .net (C#) and need to retrieve parameter values passed from the asp page.
Some of them are working - when I use code like MyControl = Request.Form["cmbDepartmentID"];
But for unknown reason - the others are not working.
So, I tried to create a Session object in the asp page, and retrieve it in the asp.net.
In the asp for example - Session("Param") = value
And in the asp.net - MyParam = Session["Param"].ToStrng();
But it doesn't recognize the session object.
What is the way to do it?
The asp page is a huge mumbo-jumbo of vbscript, javascript, html etc. that I don't follow the flow clearly. But I know querystring is not an option here.

ASP and ASP.Net do not share the same session on the same server by default. Microsoft has a way to implement session sharing[^] but I don't think a lot of people have had good experiences with it.
Have you done any debugging to output all of the Request.Form items to see if they are being posted? I can't remember if Request.Form in ASP.Net is case sensitive or not.

Yes I tried outputting all of them, and some are not being passed to the asp.net. Thats why I can't retrieve them. When I did that - I used the same case wording.
I could try the Session sharing technique you pointed to, but it looks like overkill.
I'll go back and dig further - and let you know.

Hi All,
I've designed a crystal report with a subreport in one of the report footer section. I wanted to print the subreport in new page so I select "New page before" option for that section also to avoid printing a blank subreport I select "Suppress if blank " option also suppressed the blank subreport.
Now section is getting suppressed for blank report but a new page is being added into my report.
Does anybody know how to avoid this situation?
Please help me it's very urgent.

Put a boundary (with some color and style) to check what's causing the report to extend to new page. It might be because of some extra space (even 1 inch or less) , new page is getting added.
Putting colors/style will help you in finding the reason and resovling it if possible.

If your web service is already hosted then
you do not need to put web service inside
asp.net project.
Just add web reference of it and use it.
If you want to add web service in your web application then
add it as existing web service application by right clicking
on your solution and clicking on "Add->Existing Project".

You misunderstand. The web site is already deployed. I want to add the web service to it. I tried just adding a folder to the web site and copying the web service into that new folder, but I'm getting web.config collisions. I don't have permissions to alter the IIS server instance, so I have to be able to add the web service in this manner.
Can it be done, and if so, how?

Not sure you can mix environments like this, I've certainly never seen it set up.
You're in a bit of a hard place really, I would've tried adding a sub-application but if you've not got access to IIS to set it up as an application, kind of up the creek. Pretty sure your only recourse is to push for a second site.

How did you add it in your project? I think mostly what needs to be done is just web.config updates to add the proper handler sections to tell it how to talk to the asmx. And I thought VS did those by default. I know you can mix and match in the same project. Does it work in your test and development environments?

Well, the web service is a sub project of the silverlight application's solution. I figured I could just drop the web service stuff into its own folder and be golden, but I guess that ain't how it works.

Hi everyone ,
i 've come up with strange error hope you guys can sort it out
i have used AjaxToolkit:AutoCompleteExtender which calls a web method to get string array. Everything was working fine as its populating all the data.
But the issue arise when web method is returning value in a string array like
arr[0]=1-12-100
arr[1]=1-10-100
the value im getting in the AutoCompleteExtender is the subtract of the result like
arr[0]=-111
arr[1]=-109
Why is it treating it like numeric and doing calculation when the return type is actual an string
Is there any solution to it, As per my knowledge i think its has to do sth with serialize and deserialize thing

I just installed IIS and placed my website into the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot
folder. Now I can't access it? I did not create a User name or Password so I
don't know why I am being promted for one. When I try to access
http://localhost/mywebsite , i get HTTP 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed. I
cant even go to http://localhost/ with out getting the user and pass prompt?
Anyone know how I can get ride of this. What a pain. How am I not authorized
to view this?

Go to IIS (Run->inetmgr)
Expand the Web Sites node, Right Click Default Web Site, select New-> Virtual Directory. Give alias and the path to your application and you are done.
OR
Right click the website root folder, select Properties. Select Web Sharing tab, Select 'Share this Folder'. You are ready
Both the methods I have told you will enable you to run your website. I am assuming your are a beginner. And these are the simplest ways that will work for you. Web hosting in itself is a very big topic.

Check permissions for mywebsite folder and in iis may be you have disabled anonymus access...

Try this
To resolve your Logon failure issue , try the following steps :
1. Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services
2. Next, select Local comupter "Web Site" -> "Default Web Site"
3. Then click on the directory containing your site or if you are in the rool, click the folder with the "right Default Web Site".
4. Then under the "directory security" tab click the "Edit" under "anonymous access and authentication control".
5. Uncheck "Integrated Windows authentication" and then check "anonymous access " on top. Be sure to check "Allow the ISS .... control"
Now you go and try new website. It should work.
