I don't think source code is required exactly, but it is expected. It allows the author (you, in this case) to focus on two or three highlights rather than write a complete project in the article itself. I have also found it useful to have a ready-to-go project that I can tinker with and print out when I'm working with someone else's stuff: I have found useful bits in the source that had nothing at all to do with the article itself.

Also, I personally download only the source, never the compiled executables. This is a basic security measure. An article that provides an executable and no source strikes me as risky (not that members of Code Project would ever do anything shady, of course.)

My recommendation would be to wait until you have a complete project with all of your modules. You might be able to split your article into two or three pieces, each with its own project; that way, you can publish Part 1 now, and wait a few weeks with Part 2 until you get that code finished and working.
