I'm researching if an idea we had today at a meeting is possible.
What we need to do is embed an ASP.NET project inside a WPF app. I'm not talking about a browser feature, the ASP.NET app is not published on any server. The idea is to avoid any server setup.
Anyone know if this is possible, or not?

It's for demonstration.
The idea is to be able to send the customer a few demo web apps.
The demos should work out-of-the box without any setup.
I know the first idea is to have the demo apps available online, but due to some product specifics, we prefer not to.

This is an insane question. You'd have to ship your website code AND make sure IIS was set up, then use a browser control to browse to it. How else could it work. The non retarded way to do this is to have the websites in question on a hidden server, which perhaps has some sort of security built in, to try to make sure that only your WPF app could browse to the sample site.

You could perhaps try giving Cassini a WPF front-end? (http://www.asp.net/Downloads/archived/cassini/[^], http://ultidev.com/products/Cassini/[^])

I've needed something like this before and ended up pretty much writing my own simple webserver using HttpListener. However I didn't need any actual ASP.net features, my webserver was very simple. But I think Cassini would have been a better route to have taken.

In Windows Forms, when I set the position of an UIElement I do it that way:

UIElement.Location = new Point(X, Y);

// then I get it with

UIElement.Location.X
UIElement.Location.Y

How can I do this simple task in Silverlight, for example with canvas, called "MyCanvas";

There's a variety of ways to layout elements in Silverlight/WPF beyond
simple XY coordinates. There are elements that layout their child elements,
and there are elements that layout based on their child elements. Maybe at
least glossing over the documentation will help in understanding at least
the basics of layout in Silverlight.

There's Silverlight documentation available both online[^] and offline[^].

I have developed a silver light web application.This is working fine when it is running from Visual Studio2008 but if i host it after publishing and accessing via the following link.

Is it possible to write and run a basic Hello World Silverlight Application using just Notepad, the C* compiler and the command prompt?

Call me crazy but I like to work from first principles. Gives me a better and in-depth understanding of everything. Also helps me to give my students a fundamental view of programming

Have tried it without success and I am wondering if anyone out there has tried it?

As far as I know, you'll need to use MSBuild.

A search on "silverlight command line build" yields some more examples.

Hi Thanks for putting this example. But, everywhere I find example of ArrayList containg strings. Is there a way to bind a collection of custom objects?Please advise.

Something like this instead of string collection :

Do you have an example binding to an AlbumCollection
that doesn't work?

I personally make my custom collection classes like this:

public class AlbumCollection : List<Album>
{
}

so AlbumCollection is a collection instead of contains a collection.

I am just starting with WPF to implement rich GUI application. I have design in my mind and would like you to give suggestion to make it better.

Above is the design i would like to implement. How it should work?
- a user will select an option from dropDown1 and treeview will be filled with hierarchy of active, pending, closed guests.
- When user will select an option from dropDown2/dropDown3 it will fill respective containers with list views (no of list views will be decided at run time by retrieving count from DB so there is requirement that container should pop up scrollbars if listviews crosses the bounds)
- Now user will move (drag and drop) guest from treeview to list view.

This is how application would work. I need your suggestion if this would be easy to implement in WPF. Also share your view on this.

There's tons of sample code floating around the internet and on
this site.

I highly recommend studying at least the first 3 or 4 chapters
of the WPF documentation...It will save you a lot of time in the
long run...
