window.setTimeout needs a function-"pointer" as first argument. If I'm right this can only be a function without arguments.
window.setTimeout(animation, 500); <- rigth way
window.setTimeout(animation(object, direction, newNumber), 500); <- wrong
Starts the function animation direct without waiting 500ms.

I'd look at the JQuery[^] library to do this and save yourself a whole lot of hassles.

oh that is cool! To be honest I've never really looked into jQuery but you're right. It'll probably make most sense to just use that animate function they have.

Hi , I am a newbie in HTML/Asp .

I want that, when I click a button on my main page , another page appears without being appended to the main one (that is, I want the main one not to appear anymore). I found that using a Redirect to another .asp, different from the one containing the main page,
works fine : but, what if I want to send the new page directly using a Response.Write () statement ? I've seen that, this way there's no chance to prevent the browser from appending the new page to the main one ...

Duh, RTFM. Response.Write writes directly to the response stream, of course it going to append or insert any content

This is a ridiculous request. You can't. You can only update a portion of the page, unless you are using Response.Write for the entire main page, which would be foolish.

Hello folks,
I can send an e-mail from my web-server like so:
SmtpClient mailClient = new SmtpClient();
mailClient.Send(some defined mail);
I'm however unsure as to the security in this. If someone should gain access to the machine, and it's set up to allow the above, wouldn't this mean the attacker would be able to use the server as a spam-bot?

All the code you showed is doing is sending an email using the smtpclient, it doesn't expose anything. The SMPT server itself must be configured properly.

Are the two machines on the same domain? If so you will automatically have extra permissions locally.

your outer layer "nav" has a fixed height - so anything that get shown on hover, may not be visible. You thought of using javascript? - especially jquery - It might make your life easier.
