You're wondering what the Register() method does?
WPF uses a different property system than regular .NET properties.
I imagine Register() adds your dependency property to its property system, providing
information about it - its name, type, class, and metadata.

Take a look at the Chris Anderson "Essential Windows Presentation Foundation" book Appendix on Properties. There is a partial sample on how to design the Dependency Property subsystem from scratch.
Chris Anderson is the WPF Architect and in this excellent book he describes the WPF Architectural decisions and why they are were taken.

I have a cctv dvr that I am trying to view from my wpf application. I have added a web browser control on my form on which I can browse most web pages. When I try to go to the link http:\\120.0.0.1, the address of my machine where I installed the dvr card I get the exception below.
I can come across a couple of suggestions on the web, but nothing seems to work, I am using VS 2008 on a vista machine.

Hello,
in my application i load a external .XAML file, in this XAML file i have a UserControl with some Controls in it and some Storyboards. My Main-Application loads this UserControl into a Border and adds the Storyboard to his own Resources.
Now i'm able to play this animation with the correct controls and so on, everything works fine... But! I can't set the Storyboard.SpeedRatio, no matter if i use Storyboard.SpeedRatio = 0.5 or StoryBoard.SetSpeedRatio(this.animationObject.Child as FrameworkElement, 0,5)
Nothing of those both works! The Animation has everytime the same length...
When i debug my application and starts the animation and asks for the actual SpeedRatio, .NET says it is "1", so ... how do i change that?

Couldn't find this overload with 3 parameters ?
Documentation[^] mentions containingObject to be "The object specified when the Begin method was called. This object contains the Clock objects that were created for this storyboard and its children." Have you considered that ?

Hi,
I developed a silverlight2.0 application. In this I have to open a web page from a silver light page like we open a web page using a web browser control.
I tried with

but didn't worked in my application

Hello Guys, I thought I'll ask this question under the WPF forum since ObservableCollection is a WPF class.
I have a class Client of which I use to return a collection of clients from the database as an ObservableCollection:
ObservableCollection<Client> myClients = queries.GetClients();
where GetClients() is a method that returns a list of clients of type ObservableCollection<Client>
Now I use LINQ to run a search for clients as follows:
ObservableCollection<Client> filteredClients = null;
IEnumerable<Client> qry = from c in myClients
where c.Name.ToUpper().Contains(txtSearch.Text.ToUpper())
orderby c.Name
select c;
filteredClients = new ObservableCollection<Client>(qry);
Hence filteredClients is supposed to contain a subset of myClients of the same type ObservableCollection<Client>
My problem is that this works fine on my x64 vista/machine, but when I move it to my x86 vista/machine I get an error that:
Argument '1': cannot convert from 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<Client>' to 'System.Collections.Generic.List<Client>'
After poking around a bit, I discovered that in my Visual Studio (both machines run VS.NET 2008 on Framework 3.5) on the x64 machine,
the ObservableCollection<T> class has 3 overloads and one of them accepts an IEnumerable<T>, which is exactly what qry above is.
However, on my x86 as you can guess, there are only 2 constructors and IEnumerable<T> isn't one of the parameters. Just an empty overload and one that receives a List<T>
So then my question is why is there this disparity in the number of overloads on vista x64 platform and vista x86?
Does this mean that I would have to design an auxiliary class that'll return a List<T> from my backend rather than an ObservableCollection<T> for x86 platforms?
P.S:
That is just one of the compatibility problems I believe those of us building applications with WPF are facing. Another one I hit is that if I have a ListBox with a DataTemplate and I set its SelectedValuePath, it works fine on my x64 machine but appears null on my x86 machine.
My 2 pennies for other developers out there is that if you are building on x64 and it works great and looks good, please make sure you test on an x86 machine before hitting your customers

Do you have .Net 3.5 SP1 on the x86 machine ? The IEnumerable overload was added with .Net 3.5 SP1.

If you want your app to run on both x64 and x86 then you should set the targetted CPU to x86 (default is Any). This will ensure it runs on both platform (although slower on x64 as it will run under WOW)

Hi,
I need to select elements inside my panel using only mouse (by using Drag) just like we do in Windows Explorer. I want to click on any blank part of the panel & while dragging the mouse it should select all the elements inside that selected area.
Does anyone know, how I can achieve this using WPF 3.5? Please help me ASAP...

The source code for that game is down loadable via the link at the top of the article. DL it, read through it and learn. The article is pretty well written and should go a long way to helping you understand how it works.
If you have specific question about a part that you don't understand ask them, but a blanket 'I can't understand the article so please help...' is not really going to yield you much.
