Maybe i didn't make myself clear. The project that i'm making requires that every day aroung 1000 to 5000 people are gonna upload / download files which are around 1 mb. I'm on a web hosting plan which requires $5 for each 5GB additional traffic. Which means 30x5$ = 150$ per month for additional web traffic and 5$ for each 5$ for each 500MB web space. You can immagine the sum.
Since i ALMOST don't benefit from my web site, thats quite an expense. So some time ago i saw some FTP hostings which are A LOT more affortable ( The FTP traffic is much cheaper, the ftp space is much cheaper). So my main idea is to store those files on an that kind of FTP server. However i need logic so i can upload files on that FTP server. In my oppinion there are two ways to achieve this:
1) The client authenticates to the web server -> Uploads the file on the web server -> The web server uploads the file on the FTP server. However this method has a disadvantage - the web server will have to make twice as much traffic. Once for the client to upload data on the web server and once for the web server to upload data on the ftp server.
2) When the client is uploading the file directly upload it on the FTP server withought the intervention of the web server. However this means that "somewhere on the client side" is supposed to be stored the password of the FTP server ( so the client can upload the file )
However i think that there might be a another way. Like:
The client authenticates to the web server. "Somehow the web server tells the ftp server that the client is gonna upload a file and the ftp server accepts the connection" ( Thats some really newbiesh way to explain it though )
Any suggestions ?

Hi every body,
I am using Ajax timer control for getting
the pop ups at the right bottom side.I am able to get
the pop ups at the right bottom side for every specified
time interval.But for each and specified time interval
the page is getting loaded and pop up is been displayed.
my problem is how to avoid the page loads in timer control
for specified time interval.I dont want to see the page loads
as its very disturbing for the person who works on the application.
can any body tell the solution for this problem.

What is the value you have given for the 'classid' or else 'progid' property in the tag? If you are using this property give the value in the prescribed format xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
What is the control you are referencing using the object tag?

Hi friends,
Here i explain the requirments. If a user login he is activated in current members. If he logout using the logout button, he is deactivated. I did it using the database.
But the problem is if the user straightly closes the Browser window, his name was not deactivated in the database.
Can anyone tell how to solve the problem ??

Work with timeouts. As every user has its own session, you can catch the session-timeout-event. When this event fires you know that the user didn't take an action during the last xx minutes. Deactivate the user in your database according to this event.

Do the following:
1) Open the Global.asax-file of your ASP.NET project
2) Go to the method void Session_End(object sender, EventArgs e) ...
3) Call the method you are using to deactivate the user (if he clicks at the logout-button) within session_end

Hi,
I am using an Update Panel. inside the Update Panel I vahe 5 DropDown List control
for this Update panel i am using an UpdateProgress control of AJAX. In UpdateProgress control I have used div tag with z-index property.
I want that when I run the application and choose any items from any DropDownList, an UpdateProgree should overlap the entire UpdatePanel.
But i am not getting an output.
So, If u have a solution for this, please Help me............

If the pages are popups, then you can do this using javascript. keep a reference to each open window and focus on it if someone tries to open it when it is already open.

But these pages are not popups these are the master form ,
whats the requirement is that when once the form is open and user agian tries to open it it should not do any thing.

Keep a list of the open pages in a Session object. For each event that would open a page (clicking a link, clicking a button, etc), check the target page versus the session list and see if it exists. Open the page for the user based on that.

This is my sqldatasource in that i used filter expression for filtering data . if txtdepart textbox is empty means its
not filtering records according to what i entered in txtname texbox .if i am entering some datas in all two textbox's then its
showing filtered records . can anyone tell me the solution for this ?
also i need how to change the filter expresion at runtime according to these textboxes values .

The SQLDataSource classes are not suitable for real world programming. If you're doing a professional project, you should not use them.
What you're describing seems to me to be a bug in the classes tho, what have you turned up on google, I'd expect other people would have asked the same question.

Wow - you're really stupid, too.
1 - this has nothing to do with ASP.NET, it's a pure HTML question
2 - perhaps you could tell us why you think you've entered a valid GUID, and post your code, so we can explain to you why you're mistaken. The answer is, you need to enter a GUID in the correct format. That's what the error says.
