DataGrid - Get the value of invisible cell

Hi all,

i need to get the text of a cell in a datagrid control, whose column Visible property is set to false (i dont want to display that column to the user: just contains a code number and eats space on the screen). This datagrid is data bounded to a ObjectDataSource control.

i try the following without success:

GridView_1.SelectedRow.Cells[0].Text

(on debug, i see the property Text as "")

is there a workaround to get the selected cell value without turning column's Visible property to true?

if you set Visible property of the column to false, that column will not rendered. That is why you getting String.Empty when you query the cell value.

The work around is to use css to hide the column from the user. Now you can access the cell value the same way as you access the visible=true columns.

First define your css, example

<style type="text/css">
    .columnHidden
    {
        display:none;
    }
    .columnVisible
    {
        display:block;
    }
</style>

Now use the css to hide your columns

<asp:boundfield datafield="PID" itemstyle-cssclass="columnHidden" />

Howdy,

I have had a web site running for some time now and I am constantly having issues with the statement User.IsInRole ("somegroup") returning a false value. It does not always happen but often the user is a memeber of the group which membership is being tested but the statement returns false. The application makes decisions based upon the return value and then the user does not have proper access to certain functionality within the site.

We normally have to stop and start the application pool on the iis server. Is there anything I am doing wrong?

I need to check the date changed, if changed i need to execute a snippet for first request after date change and for further requests another snippet executes.
How do i check the date is changed? and execute snippet for first request only?

Look at Validation[^]
you can run your validation on the client side too. If you are looking only date changed events then look at this[^]

I am looking for the C# code to place one image on another image. My requirement is exactly like the following link.

When user browse and select his image, it has to be adjusted on another image. Please provide me if you have any sample code or if you know any third party controls and codes which provide these kind of functionality.

There is not a piece of code that does this. Perhaps there is a third party that makes it simple, but its pretty simple to do it from scratch without any extra controls.

Its actually a combination of 'photoshop' techniques and code. You do actually have to layer two photos on top of one another however in a rendered code page. You use the standard DIV tags and then layer them via the absolute positioning, setting the z-index of two tags to force one behind the other. The top most photo needs to be a GIF that has the sections 'cut out' and made transparent where you want the underlying photo to 'show through'. You will need a tool like Photoshop to accomplish this part (and its really the hardest part of it all). Its an old, and simple technique.

Can any one let me know, i am using URL mapping in ASP.NET 3.5 i have made the following enteries in my web.config

<urlmappings enabled="true">
<add url="~/Widget/aspx" mappedurl="~/Products/W/Widgets.aspx">

but when the user is typing the URL it is showing 404 error? i am using IIS 5.1 on Windows XP. Kindly reply ASAP, thanks in adavance.

I know to drag the fields..I asked there is option in data tab tat count of field is displaying.
I kept date in x axis..but thre is no option to keep n y axis..it is taking the count of field in dataset...

Hi Guys,

I've got a section on a master page that is visible when logged in. It contains a link to click to log out, which runs the following code

Session.Abandon();
Response.Redirect("~/default.aspx");

However, on the default page, the Logged in section is still visible with the log out button, and i can still access the secure areas without authorization. (Code behind still hit, so it's not cached).

What else do i have to do to get someone completely logged out? :S

it is better to use Session.Remove("AuthKey") and check the "AuthKey" from Master page..

Hi all,

I have a problem with that instruction: For Each f In IO.Directory.GetFiles(sDir)

sDir = "R:\Temp" for example.

When I use that on a local directory on the C:\ driva it works ok, but when I try to use that on the network with a mapped drive (example: R:\Temp) I get the error: System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path R:\Temp
