I have always been a ... err ... everything to the Software Engineering world but a web developer. Now while some inevitable circumstances have pushed me to write a web solution, I feel like a new born in this arena , so I shall love to hear some advice from you.
I am after an RIA, and a very interactive one (say a web based game). What set of technologies do you advise me to invest into? The desirability variables are as below (in order of priority from high to low):
1- Wide platform support (adopted technology should not limit the number of users)
2- It will be a huge plus if the embedded application could also be executed offline in any way (standalone execution of the application with very limited internet communication when required, e.g. objects/info update during the startup once, will really be great, however it should remain available through browser)
3- I feel slightly more comfortable with .NET technologies than Java/Flash
Thanks for your advice guys ... Point number 3 is still number 3 from priority point of view and if it hurts 1 & 2, I can consider other technologies; I have worked on Java in the past, albeit not much on web-technologies thereof, which seem a bit 'messy' from outside.
How easy is it to install Mono on the fly if I consider silverlight? they say it will be available for Silverlight (2?) in June 2009. Do you see things like Google Gears or Adobe AIR etc. fitting in the scenario?
In IE I disable "Automatic prompting for file downloads" which causes
the IE information bar to show up when I try a file download
in csv. m getting csv format using Ajax so no refresh, I want to keep this behaviour.
When clicking "Download file..." on the information bar, a postback
occurs. The file that is going to
be downloaded is generated by a rather heavy export, now the export is
running twice. Once before the information bar shows up and again when
"Download file..." has been clicked. .
However... I am not able to detect the reason of the postback !
, after clicking that link button i want to go to next page with partial postback means using ajax .
What does it mean ? If you are redirecting to a next page then why partial post back? or you want to mean some thing different ?
I think you have to pane in web page and when you click on link button, page will be changed in side pane and you want no post back in between them . please confirm !!!
I developed a crystal report in .Net 2008 and able to view it on crystal viewer. but viewer's toolbar has navigation buttons which are disabled.. how to make them enabled , so that i can navigate through pages..
I am asking this question becoz I've never uploaded a DB on a webhosting server.
I am building a website that has a DB, from time to time I will need to add/remove tables from the database but I don't know if a typical webhosting service will provide me with tools to carry out such tasks or if I should write my own DDL code to add/remove tables, etc.
And ever has it been that love knows not its own depth until the hour of separation
Host do not provide any interface to connect to database as these are external tools.
You can connect to database using the same tool that you use to connect to your local database.
For Eg: If you are using MS SQL server 2005 as Database, you will use SQL Server Management Studio to connect to remote Server.
Difference is that
ServerName: <IP Address of Database Server that you Used in Web.config> Authentication: SQL server Authentication Login: <ID Provided by your host or one you created> Password: <Same as you created or Provided by host>
I used to connect to database of my website using the above method.
I have basic HTML experince and would like to make a webpage with a search engine with a more detailed search result.
I have made a search engine for my private website with Fluid Dynamics Search Engine v2.0.0.0073. The problem is when I search for something it brings up the results like Googl... (the word I searched for is a link with a short description below)
What I would like is the following
- I search for something like a serial number
- If it finds the serial number it brings up a result display in a "matrix" view with other details assocoiated with the item.
It would probably be easier to write your own server-side search script than use a 3rd party tool. Codeproject is more oriented towards C# or VB script though. To make the query, you need a knowledge of SQL, and any database software will do such as ms sql server, mysql, or postgresql.
I am developing one web application which needs to supports multi lamguages like english, hinsi, punjab and gujarati. I am displaying the Labels from ApplicationResource.preoperties(english,hindi..etc) for all languages. But the problem is whenever i am trying to save&edit the values from DB, its displaying wrong charecters in jsp page.plz help me regarding the same..
Also consider if you can afford Visual Studio (although there is the express edition). Costs nothing to set up an 'open source' development environment, but can be a bit of a pain in the arse if you don't know what you're doing...
I have built a C# web service which uses a managed c++ dll. The managed c++ dll uses a native c++ dll. When I test the service on the webdev.webserver it works correctly. But when the service is deployed on IIS, I get an error while invoking the web method. The error message is "System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException: External component has thrown an exception."
I get this error in the managed code. I searched on the net and one suggestion was to put the native dll being used by the managed dll in the bin folder of the web service. I did this also. But I got the same error.
I have spent nearly 2 days on this.
Any hints/ pointers as to why this error occurs? I am sure this has got to do something with IIS configuration, but I am not able to figure out what.
