Hi
I have to write some functions so i want to confirm whats better...
1. if i write one function with lot of functionalities
For exa.
Function Unit()

2. if I break down this function in multiple functions and the call them inside the function and these function will be written in business layer.
For exa.

Fun1(arg1,arg2)

Question 2 - is this a good practice (if not what are the drawbacks) or i must use directly Convert.ToInt16(oData).
****I am calling this at so many places

For 1st Q:
Regading performace both are almost same but for better managebility it always preferred to split in functions so that every function implement one feature.It's good practice.
for 2nd :
It'll be better if u use directly Convert.ToInt16(oData).but do use it in Try catch block cause if this function will not be able to convert it in int then it'll throw exception.

As I said, It is almost same.When we do something there is a tradeoff associated.Breaking it into multiple function will just add very few LOC in if you convert it in Machine language.Those lines won't take significant time.But this will surely help u a lot while managing the code which is more important.
Also,You can prioritise and implement as per your requirement.

When you apply any setting on web.config, you are overriding the default machine.config settings.

You can handle the single click through ASP.NET itself. Just edit the template and double click the button, it automatically takes you to the codebehind. Double click can be handled through JavaScript only. Since you need both, better handle both through JavaScript and fire the Postback from the client script.

I'm trying to develop a web page after modifying solution from vs2005 to 2008. I can't multi-select controls and position them on the screen, which i understand is a performance downgrade as it was doable in vs2005, nor does the Layout tab work for me in 2008. But worst of all when I try to program controls in the .aspx html file and hen view design again, the IDE randomly applies who know what to the page and the controls end up all over the place. Its driving me nuts. Very difficult to learn web-page development, let alone make a project deadline.

I have a form with a Gridview, MultiView and Menu control on one aspx page.
Sequence of events:
User selects Gridview record A, multiview displays tab 1 and 2
Tab 1 displays record A data
Tab 2 displays record A data
Gridview record B is selected, multiview displays tab 1 and 2
Tab 1 displays record B data
Tab 2 displays record "A" data (this is the problem)
Each tab is a formview populated via seperate SqlDataSources
Does anyone know why the previous record is being displayed?
Does anyone know how I can trace what is "really" being sent to second SqlDataSource?
My debug watch shows the correct record id but second datasource is not returning the correct record info.

My Problem is:
i'm using microsoft word object library 11.0 in my web site, when I’m debugging the application works fine, my question is, why when i call the site from another machine ,the document doesn’t work, it doesn't throw any exception .
I have mentioned my code below:

How can I prevent users from accessing web pages by typing the url of these pages in the address bar of the browser?
I tried checking for the "REFERER" server variable and if it's null, then redirect the user to the home page..but this actually prevents pop up pages from being displayed for the user when he clicks on a link to access another page.
Is there any other way to achieve this?

One way is to use authentication, but that forces the user to login. A user that is not authenticated will be automatically redirected to the login page.
Good or bad? Your choice.
Another way is to have an "entry page" for the users and use server.transfer instead of "response.redirect" when you refer them to the next page. That way they won't find out what the other pages are.

Well, I won't be able to do the first suggestion.
But, could you explain in more details the second solution. What do you mean "entry page"??
I know the server.transfer method, but I'm not quite sure how to use it in this second solution?

With "entry page" I mean a page with choices for the user, or links to other pages, or the home page you would have referred the user to.
If this page is called "Index.aspx" and the user clicks on the link "Results" which refers to "Results.aspx",
the user would still see "Index.aspx" in the address bar if you use server.transfer instead of response.redirect.
And therefore the users will not know that "Results.aspx" exists.
