I'm currently using a table with four columns to lay out two columns of input fields, as below. Where do I start if I want to stop abusing the table element and achieve the same thing with CSS, or some other layout solution?

colA - colB - colC - colD
lbl1 : txt1 - lbl2 : txt2
lbl3 : txt3 - lbl4 : txt4

Well, depends - what are your goals here? If you actually want a table, with a fixed number of columns, headers, etc... Then you're already doing the right thing.

If you just want your fields laid out with uniform spacing, you can use CSS and floating DIVs.

If you want something else... ?

I want two vertical sets of label-input pairs, i.e. left and right. I have no idea what options besides a table could achieve this. I have found very few resources until now[1] Blush | :O

dealing with this, but hey, what are forums for?

Looks good to me - i'd certainly use it as a reference. Try adding float:left to the li style and increasing the width of the fieldset (or change it to a percentage width) - you'll get the individual fields lining up nicely across the fieldset then, wrapping to the available width (try that with a table!) getting customers

hi friends

i have one application in which they have use login controls and aspnetdb
for storing customers.
now we have devloped new application, in which we are not implementing login controls. we are using simple tables for this.

I want to transfer customer data from previous application to new application. how can i get the passwords of the customers.

Why can't you establish a compatible and shared Authentication system instead of transmitting passwords across the wire, which is considered very insecure these days?

I am working on a website which require a forum application.
There are many buildin forum applications but i want to do it personally.
Can anyone suggest me how can i store data for this. Which one will be better? xml files for storing data or sql server database itself?

I have a simple four column table based layout, with a left set of label/input pairs and a right set. I specify absolute widths in the table header, as below, and widths of 100% for my inputs, but in IE 7, when the input aren't populated, they shrink down to a minimum width. This doesn't occur in FF 3. What am I doing wrong?

Hi All,

I need to delete a file using ASP. So i m using FSO (FileSystemObject).

i used -

FileNameStr = "D:\abc\xyz.txt"
set fso=Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
if fso.FileExists(FileNameStr) = true Then 
	fso.DeleteFile FileNameStr,true 
End IF

using above code the file is not getting deleted.
Please help me on this problem & let me know what to do.

You (the credentials you're running under) don't have permission to delete the file. Or something (possibly you) has the file open. Or the path is bogus. Can't really tell from this end.

Try FileMon or ProcMon[^] to identify the actual error (if there is one). Also, try logging errors.

I have an application that uses a reportviewer control.
On IE it works fine but in firefox and on certain laptops(actually on my client head's laptop Smile | :)

) it comes up to only 1/4 of the page.

The reportviewer head that is with the export to excel and zoom options takes the whole page only the area where the reports are shrunk to about 1/4 of the page..
Does anyone know what is the problem here...
I have done a lot o things but cant find any solutions,,

What is a reportviewer control? Unsure | :~

If you're talking about that SQL Server Reporting Services control, the HTML it spits out is crap and looks appropriately crappy on everything that's not IE. There are ways to beat it into submission though. I'd start by checking the styles on the control itself - make sure you're not specifying pixel values for width or something. I'd follow up by asking in one of the .NET forums, since they might have a better clue how to get your hands on some good ol' fashioned control beatin' sticks. $Shucks | :-\$

No its not the sql reporting..
the .net reporting thing.. using rdlc files..
I am not specifying the pixels at all all are in %.
Moreover, the reports being generated are a kind of template which it uses to render the report..So i cant do much of a change with that.

Hi everybody,

Cam anyone guide me to a very good article on how to use advertising business in my website to earn money?

Basically, I am developing something very similar to a newspaper website, I want to earn money by providing advertisement areas, but I know exactly nothing about this business model.

I need information on this business model from developer's, customers', website manager's and users' points of view.

My adverts might be very similar to the adverts displayed here in the upper panel on code project.

Google AdSense if you want to display adverts on your website, Google AdWords if you are advertising on other websites.

but mainly I am interested on how to include ads in my website without relying on third party plug-ins like google, I want also to know what are the ways to bill customers, and how to allow customers to display ads on my website, and what considerations must be taken into account during website design and deveopment.

In short, I want to know the whole cycle of this business model without including third parties like Google.

Thats a bit of a tall order for a forum. Much depends on what type of advertising you wnat to do, how YOU want paying etc etc.

There are numerous business models, some better than others, and what suits one person may not suit you. You need to do some research and decide how you wnat to proceed. There are plenty of articles available on Google.
