Hi,
Can some one help us out with the below issue. we are stuck here and not able to progress further.
We have developed a web remote monitoring tool which will give the real time data of memory , cpu and disk for remote pc's in an intranet.
We need a back end code that will collect the memory , cpu and disk data from remote pc to sql server for reporting purpose.
Can some one help us to complete this project.
Thanks in advance,

While trying to install Visual Stuido 2008 setup informed that I have to remove .NET 2.0 SP1
However I got a message when trying to uninstall I got a message from ADD/REMOVE programs that this
cann't be done (the unintall) as other programs need .NET 2.0 SP1
Any suggestions

i never installed VS2008 but of course you can't uninstall the framework .net 2.0 because many programs use it.. i think you need to install the .net 3.0.
Go to the web page of windows update and see if it is available...
i don't know if it helps

That's strange. VS 2008 will install .NET 2.0 sp1! So if it's already there it should just skip over it.

I have downloaded some code that is applicable across several platforms.
They are Perl Scripts supplied to generate make files, but where do you get a freeware Perl Script program?
Or is this Perl Script just for non-Windows platforms.
Many thanks,
Andy.

Have you tried Googling for "Perl for Windows"??

Noone can answer that except the documentation on the script.

I have developed software components for client/server TCP communications using C# .NET. I have two Windows XP Pro boxes (A and B). Running the client and server on Box A with the communications hitting itself is successful. Running the client on Box A and the server on Box B is successful. Running the server on Box A and the client on Box B is successful. However, running the client and server on Box B with the communications hitting itself is unsuccessful. I have tried using both 127.0.0.1 and the network IP address on Box B.
Is there some sort of network setting I need to tweak?
|
|
|
|
|
The answer had something to do with DNS. After running Wireshark, I saw that the client was trying to use DNS to resolve an IP address from a host name that it got from an IP address (one in the same). I imagine changing DNS settings on Box B would have cleared the issue. Being unfamiliar with network configuration, I simply changed my code to use the IP address without any resolution.

A friend's laptop was acting really bizarre (e.g., very slow in doing basic things: taking minutes to delete files and display context menus) so he asked me to format the HDD and reinstall XP on it. This is usually no big deal (compared to those where the owner wants the problem fixed while preserving everything!) as I've done it dozens of times in the past.
During the installation, XP asks if I want to do a quick or regular format. Not thinking anything is wrong with the HDD, I opt for a quick format. It finishes and starts copying files. After the machine reboots and Windows is preparing to start, an error pops up about not being able to find ntoskrnl.exe. I wrote it off as odd and did it all again, only to be presented with the same error.
Thinking maybe there was a bad spot on the HDD, I tried it again except I opted for a regular format so that the HDD could be checked and corrected. At this point, the HDD spun and spun but never did anything. The progress meter was stuck at 0%.
So, how can I verify if the HDD is bad or not?

Download the Ultimate Boot CD[^], burn it and obviously boot from it.
When the menu appears, down arrow to the Hard Disk Tools and hit Enter, then (if memory serves correctly) select Diagnostic and then choose the Tool that corresponds to the brand of HDD in the laptop.
These utilities usually have an option for a Quick Test, if they find something wrong they push you to run the Full Test which wil give you details of whatis wrong with it.

You already did. It's bad.
You have only 2 possibilities here. Either you've got a bad hard drive, which is cheap to replace, or a bad motherboard, which is really expensive.

These are the classic symptoms of a bad HDD.
So, as Dave Kreskowiak already answered, it's verified.
I'd like to add that one should have Smart[^] enabled in the BIOS. It will tell you if the HDD is broken or will get broken. Usually it tells you to late, but often enough it tells you early enough to save your data.

Hi everyone,
Is it possible connect to internet of OS that I installed on the vritual pc?
Thanks

Your question doesn't make any sense. Are you asking if you can connect to the Internet from a child O/S running inside a VirtualPC?? Yes, with an appropriate configuration of both the host O/S and the child O/S. This configuration is spelled out in the Help File for VirtualPC. Search for "Accessing the web" in that Help file.

There is no internet "of child o/s". It's "connect to the internet FROM the child O/S".
