Hi all,
In the master page i need to read a value from the web.config file (key="PathLogout"). To read PathLogout i have placed a hiiden label <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" style="display:none" Text="<%$ AppSettings:FreeAndClose %>"></asp:Label>
Inisde a javscript function i am reading it as follows:
var myVar = document.getElementById('<%= Label1.ClientID %>').innerHTML;
alert(myVar);

an error is generated "The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>)."

Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>).

Any ideas why and how can i solve it.

I think you want =, not $. The syntax with the colon looks wrong, too ?

One way to solve it, is to set the value of the textbox in your code behind. A more sensible way would be to write something like

var MyVar = '<%=AppSettings:whatevert%>';

and leave your textbox out of it

Compiler Error Message: BC30451: Name 'AppSettings' is not declared.

I am not sure where this AppSettings: format is coming from. Your best bet IMO is to reference a codebehind variable in your ASPX and in your code behind, write code that really DOES read your app settings.

This is my appsettings from web.config
<appSettings>

<add key="PathLogout" value="http://10.1.5.29/CID/Logout.aspx"></add> </appSettings>

also in the code behind of the master page i have added
Imports System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings

iam not sure of what u have said Smile | :)

ru saking me to read the value on code behind using
ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("KeyName")
if i do so how can i read it in the javascript, u mean to load it to hidden variable.

What I'm saying is, have the code in the aspx that creates the javascript variable access a property in your codebehind, and in the codebehind, have it return the right property from the config. ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("PathLogout") or whatever. Indeed, you could just use RegisterClientScriptBlock to create the variable entirely in your code behind.

The most obvious way I can think of, is to control Word on your server, have it do a spell check, and send the results back down to the client.

Independent of if a text box is in modal popup or not you can get the value if the textchanges ny addeing the code in

OnTextChanged event.

Put button that opens Modalpopup outside the UpdatePanel
and write your impl that written text on textbox , I hope this will work.

Tihs is the ASP.NET forum. ASP.NET is a specific .NET technology. I recommend you buy a book, do a google, and generally show some level of intelligence and ability to do basic research. If you can't do that, then, to be honest, you're not going to benefit from anything anyone may choose to tell you.

Dear Friends,

I have created one project in which i can access data from database most of the time for that i added a connection string through web config file but here is my Confused | :confused:

confusion start i found that i can access the data of "Resource file" from anywhere using Global keyword

for example:
I have created ConnectionString in resource file as shown below
Name: ConnectionString
Value: Data Source=SERVER;Initial Catalog=ABC;User ID=sa;Password=***
Comment: Use for Database Connection.

now i can access this from anywhere in my application using follwing syntex

global::Resources.Resource.ConnectionString.ToString();

can anyone explain me why there is web config file and resource file having same functionality but different name i know that there is some reason i want that reason thanks in advanced Rose | [Rose]

Resource files, from what I understand, are ment to be used for localization. Web.config is more for local independent settings.

AJAX is just a fancy name for an asyncronous callback using XML. Postback refreshes the entire page. Xmlclientside, I've never heard of, may be a reference to AJAX, but if it's all client side, then it's not AJAX, by definition.

Probably because your code is broken. If you hand code your AJAX, you need to write code that checks which browser you are in, and uses the appropriate code to create the object that makes the callback. How are you doing it ? What books have you read ? AJAX in Action is a great book on this stuff.

Hi,

i have changed the project folder's web sharing tab there i have checked the Share this folder radio button given a alias name with full permissions then clicked ok..so it has been added into the IIS

Then i created another application in which i tried to access the web service ..
For this i right clicked references then web references, There i choosen web service on local machine so i got list of all the web services available ..then i have chosen the service which i created ...so a error came " Failed to map the path/service1/App_GlobalResources/.

Hi,

In a web site I want to disallow users to give absolute addresses in the address bar for accessing web pages. Let me illustrate with an example. Suppose my website has three webpages login.aspx,a.aspx, and b.aspx

I do not want the users to navigate to a.aspx or b.aspx by giving the following url in the address bar

http://www.mywebsite.com/a.aspx
or
http://www.mywebsite.com/b.aspx

Login.aspx is the startup page of the website. They should be able to access this web pages only if they have logged in.
