Can I open WORD DOC on a web Page. I have seen links which create the WORD DOC. But is there a way that a USER can open a WORD DOC and edit them online on an ASP.NET PAGE

Hi all... I have a strange issue since a couple of days.
here is my code:
<br />
DataRow row = MyDataView[Position].Row;<br />
row["LastName"] = "r";<br />
Now the strange thing is that row.RowState is always set on "Unchanged"... And naturally that means I can't update my modification to the database...
Does somebody have an idea where to look for?

Found my self the solution
forgot to put an EndEdit...
But I still have the problem that when I go to my Update on the dataset, I retrieve a ConcurrencyException... but I'm the only one using this database...

this might be not related to C#, but i would like to know the reason why ALOGOL-60's assign operator (x:=5,//not x=5) was not followed by the other languages like C# and java .

I think (in fact someone told me some time ago) because C language's (i.e. the grandfather of both Java and C#) assignment, equality test operator pair ({=, ==}) is smarter than ALGOL-60 one (({:=, =}): it implies less typing since assignments are statistically more frequent than equality tests.
If the Lord God Almighty had consulted me before embarking upon the Creation, I would have recommended something simpler.

Possibly because they were based on C style syntax. Pascal use the := syntax, C doesn't.

Maybe Bell Labs didn't have a colon on their keyboards? (Or card punch systems?)
BCPL uses := for assignement and = for equality.
B uses = for assignment and == for equality.
and it all goes downhill from there.
In my opinion, assignment should be := and equality should be == and a bare = should not be a valid token.

i installed windows service in using installutil ,installing
is succesfull. But the service is giving error while starting ...
it is giving internal windows error or internal service error
can any one tell me how to rectify error ..

Build stable code and log exceptions to the eventlog (yes you've got one for free with your windowsservice  )
Debuging a windows service is .... not nice so you better test your code before integrating it into a windows service.
Most errors are written to the system event log of your OS anyway so maybe have a look at those and try to find more information there.
A common problem is that a windows service runs normaly on special accounts that don't have all those fancy permisions you are used to while coding as admin - for example file access might be forbidden - you can test this by running the service in an administrator account (of course only for test reasons  )

We've collected a fair bit of code written by different developers, some of who have been lax about disposing Bitmaps after they are done being used. I was wondering if anyone knows how serious a problem that is. Are there any reprocussions to not disposing bitmaps? Won't the GC take care of it all in the long run?

Yes and yes. It uses more memory than is required until the garbage collector gets to it. If you don't dispose of it properly the garbage collector will require two passes at the object (meaning it will stay in memory longer). Also large items, such as bitmaps, go directly into the generation 2 heap which is cleaned up less frequently (meaning it will stay in memory longer).
Bottom line, slap your lax developers.

Actually, large objects will go on the large object heap, which is different than Gen2. Also, the LOH isn't compacted but it is collected everytime Gen2 is collected.

Hello everybody,
I want to design only one master page for different type of users. Menu items should display accoding to permission for a user type. To design, i have used menu tool. I want to connect the menu with different sitemaps, because sitemap stores xml data. I will provide all sitemap with different names menually. When someone logging in it will check the user type and set menu items accordingly.
But sitemap datasource by default connect with web.sitemap and shows menu. There is no option found to menually set other sitemaps for a menu.
How can i link with other sitemap at runtime? And how can i design this type of master page? If there is any other process, please tell me.
Please help me.........

You can do this by adding multiple sitemap providers..
1. Add a new provider in web.config (Here XmlSiteMapProvider1 is the new one)

I want to be able to take only certain data from a .txt file and display it on my page... the example is this. I want to be able to select all the data inserted in that .txt file where there is a specific date ie. 30 January 2008. Where I have the problem is selecting data that falls across more than one lines in the text file, remembering that the next date is coming up a couple lines later and I don't want to use that data that coincides with that date.
Any advice?

Loop through the file line by line. Take which bits of data you need. Without knowing more about the file structure I can't be of further help.

What if I dont know what data I need? All I know is the date that links me to whatever data coincides with that date. What can I use as a exit from the loop in that case?
example of text:
