Hi everyone!
We are initializing a big project for my company's website. It's, basically, maps, routes and localizations tools.
Ok! But, first, we need to adopt a good organization for our solution (with multiple layers).
Could anybody, more experienced than me, indicate good references for this subject?

Is there a best practice acceptance criteria for "code acceptance" to signup support contract? For example, I assume the following guidelines -
1) Managed code using VS.NET
2) Should use the latest framework, ez, .NET framework
3) ASP.NET/AJAX for web applications
4) XML standards such as OASIS
5) web protocols such as HTTP, SOAP, REST, etc
Does anyone has some guidelines?

Why would web applications have to use AJAX at all, or be tied to the Microsoft framework ?
If you're not using HTTP, you're not really on the web, are you?
What are you trying to achieve here ? A list of thngs you want someone to deliver to you ? A list of thngs you feel you'd be required to deliver ?

Hi,
I'm trying to test the deployment of a web applciation before getting too deep in its development. The app consists of a Login page, a master page and a few (stub) content pages plus a start page and one half-developed content page. I'm using VS 2005 (C#) and SQL Server 2005, and using Forms authentication. The web app works fine when running under VS's Development Web Server. However, I tried to deploy it by publishing the web site to a physical folder, used IIS (5.1) to create a virtual folder mapped to that physical folder, then tried accessing the published web site and got the following (security) exception:

I tried using the approach outlined in

but it didn't help. Essentially, I'm not sure why just adding that key to the registry would solve the problem. Isn't the issue the fact that the account (ASPNET) that the application is running under does not have write access to the EventLog in order to create the Event Source? If so, how do I add that access right to the account?
Also, The following error occured while attempting to read the properties for the user ASPNET:
The Server service is not started.
Not sure which service that is. There is a manual service called ASP.NET State Service that is not normally started on boot up. Starting it does not make any difference to my error.
Is this error related? Is the exception above due to some service not running when ASPNET attempts to access the IIS web site?

I going to be building a asp .net website that will have static content, dynamic content coming from a sql server database, and pdf pages. They want a single search box visitors can enter in key words and then do a search on it in all three areas of the website mentioned above. How can this be done?

The textbox entry should fire the OnTextChanged event, MText_Textchanged.
Now, I dont want to fire this for all entry. When I change textbox entry to particular strings like 'georgia','atlanta','florida'(jus examples) the MText_Textchanged should be fired.
Actually, when the textbox entry is changed, I need to do some checkbox disable on the page. So, for textbox I have to keep the AutoPostback = "true".
So, every time I change the textbox entry, the page postsback. I want the page postback and the textbox change event to occur only for specific strings.
Please help.

You should probably never use the OnTextChanged event. Very bad UI performance. It looks like what you really need is some javascript. There are lots of examples out there on how to write javascript. I think you want a keypress event on the textbox then in the javascript check to see when the textbox = your text and then the checkbox gets disabled.

Does anyone know how I can create a Silver scrollbar on

I've written a page that allows a user to look up a page of info from a DB. Nothing too ground breaking there.
Now i want to allow the user to email a URL including a querystring specifying which page he was looking at.
The querystring contains a massive __ViewState parameter which I can't get rid of.
I've set enableviewstate and enableSession state to false in the Page tag and I've set the enableviewstate attribute to false in all the controls i could find that had it set to true but I still haven't got rid of it.
My application is going to be entirely stateless so i'm happy to just pass an occassional piece of data from one page to another.
Does anyone know how to turn off viewstateentirely? Is there a config setting?

I am pretty sure the only time viewstate ends up in the query string is when you go cookieless in your webconfig. So if you change your site to allow cookies then the viewstate should get out of your query string.
Note even when you turn off viewstate, there is still some viewstate info in the page.
Anyway, that is my best guess.

try to use the page directive EnableViewState="false". It should disable the viewstate for the entire page!

If the ID is not purely numeric, you need to parse out the numeric portion, increment it, and put it back.

Or use Base36 calculation and just add 1 unless the first three chars require to be 'ABC'.
