On the taskbar, the buttons representing each open program resize themsleves between two boundaries, generally betwwen the quick launch bar and the notification area. Is it possible, and if so how, to change these boundaries so that taskbar item boundaries will reduce the space items occupy.

Hi,
I am using a datagrid view to display table data via dataset.

additionally I have a number of text and combo boxes where the user can enter filter information

so for example the data grid has 2 columns a product and a price.
The product filter is a combo box and the the price filter is a textbox.

acceptable filters would be
for the product:
a selected product ( phillips screwdriver)
a wildcard entered directely into the combo ( *screwdriver* )
for the price:
> 50 And < 300
<= 20

What I am looking for is an easy parsing technique that would convert the user entry into something an SQL where clause (or even a dataset select ) would understand
ie
Where [Product] = "phillips screwdriver" and [Price] > 50 and [Price] < 300

does anyone have an example algorythim for this kind of thing so that I can build code (or indeed any code to do this would be greatfully received - I can always build an algorythim from it)

This screams one thing, and screams it loud - SQL injection attacks.[^].

You do not want to take user input and directly construct an SQL query from it. What you want to do instead is create an SQL Stored Procedure on the server that will perform your select statement, and pass the user entered values to it.

Actually what I want to do is pass a dataset to the GUI holding say

Select * from Customers.

then use the User input and build a Dataset/DataView Filter on the returned dataset

so no SQL injection
but its a good warning.

also in this app , some data will come from SQL DB and other data from Oracle DB

so I have written a middleware layer which will retrieve the data but I dont want to use stored procedures at the DB level when my middleware is currently generic enough to handle both DB's via "standard" SQL.

i am writing a program to get processes from the task manager to a text box. i managed to get the processes to an variabel,but when i try to send the data to a string variable...... it does not work.

Loop through your array contents and append them in a string.

Hi,

In an attempt to simplify the debugging process, I wrote a public sub EC (ErrorCatcher), that I can call from anywhere in my app, which writes all necessary information to a text file. Something like:

This Err.TargetSite.Name is just my latest attempt, but it does not tell me that the error took place in Private Sub MyCode.

Is there any way (other than passing it to the EC sub as a handwritten string) at all to find out in what part of the code the exception occurred, at runtime, and if yes then how?

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Yes, you can get the stack trace from the exception object and print it, it will tell you what method threw the exception, and a call stack down from there.

Hi,

rather than using Exception.Message and/or Exception.StackTrace
you really should use Exception.ToString()

it will show you at least the Message and the StackTrace
but also:
- additional information (e.g. the filepath on a File Not Found)
- information about "inner exceptions"

Hi, I got a problem while trying to view a report in crystal application. When I try to open the report, it display this error message: Server has not yet been opened. My application is connect to sql server and when I try to add data or retrieve data from the database, it work fine. But when I try to view the report it display the above error message. Hi,

I was trying to take a screenshot of a web page through the web browser control using the drawtobitmap function and it was giving blank images for pages such as google.com . I finally found the reason as stated by someone here :

I am now trying to convert the code given by the guy to vb.net, but am new to it and cant seem to implement the interface calls. Could anyone please help he port the code? Here it is (as given in the post):

There are web sites that convert C# to VB, and some CP articles also. There are also commercial products, that probably do a better job.

since I can't mail you the example project here is how to made it (brief but should be enough)

on a empty form:

add toolstrip
add toolstripcontainer (upper right corner of toolstrip)
toolstripcontainer dock property = fill
add second toolstrip (next to the first one)
add statusbar (will not be docked properly but we'll solve that later)
add you're ruler
add you're rich text box
add everything else you want on the form (in the toolstripcontainer)

now that that is done let's place verything
to do this in an easy way open the 'document outline' window (located under 'view -- other windows -- document outline) this is a very handy window for docking

when you click the '-' next to the toolstripcontainer1 you should have the following order of controls (if this isn't the case you can just replace them by drag and drop in the document oultine window:
toolstripcontainer1
statustrip

now lets look at the toolstripcontainer1 (click the '+' next to it)
now you have 5 main groups (don't change these the are added by designer for the toolstripcontainer)

first group ToolStripContainer1.ContentPanel:
ruler1 (must be the first if you want you're ruler to be docked)
richtextbox1
...

the second (left),third (right), and fifth (bottom) group don't contain anything

the fourth group (top):
toolstrip1
toolstrip2
(order doesn't mather)

now it should work (you can drag the toolstrip1 and 2 to the left, right and bottom edge of the form at run time)

then the toolstripcontainer occupy the whole form and other elements are hide behind the toolstripcontainer

what's going worng

Use Ctrl+Left/Right to switch messages, Ctrl+Up/Down to switch threads, Ctrl+Shift+Left/Right to switch pages.
