I am not sure what the special characters are. Maybe you could use a MaskedTextBox or a MaskedTextProvider.

For a simple fix you could handle the key press event. In my app I just wanted post code data so I limited the MaxLength property of the post code text box and handled the key press event not allowing any chars others then numeric chars to be entered.

Hi i'm trying to build an ftp service which will poll a unnix machine to bring the files back to a w2003k machine. i'm doing it in vb.net/1.1 using vs2003, any tips or pointers getting started on this as i don't know where to start on this one much!

I currently use the .net framework bootstrapper with my app to check if the framework is currently installed on the client machine, that works well and everything. Now what I need to do is somehow include the msde via bootstrapper, so that the msde can also be installed.

Does anyone have any idea how to do this???

Hello All,
I am using .NET Framework 1.1. I am working on a web application. I have a 3rd party dll used in that. Now my project is running fine on my local machine. But when I setup it on the server it gives CS1704 error (An assembly with the same simple name 'SomeName' has already been imported. Try removing one of the references or sign them to enable side-by-side.)

Now I have only one reference to that assembly in my project.
Any suggestion ??

I was wondering whether anyone knew how to go aobut getting a list of all of the keys on the keyboard, like in programs which have comboboxes which allow you to select the keys you're going to use for your shortcut.

Has anyone used the CSLA framework as is? What has been your experience with it? I am trying to figure out whether to create my own framework, which would consist of a subset of the features in CSLA, but not the whole thing (namely remoting) or use it as and extend some functionality to it.

If anyone could provide feedback on their experiences of CSLA.Net I would grately appreciate it.

Hi,
With .NET 3.0 and Vista, i hear that MS is giving us an almost completely Managed API sub-system of Windows OS (maybe on top of or side by side along with the Win 32 sub-system). Is this correct? I could not find any specific mention about thin anywhere in MS site.

Also is it true that .NET 3.0 will only support Win XP SP2 and Win 2003 and above (i.e. Vista, etc) and not Win 98/NT/Win 2K. If that is true (i hope not) then how do we deploy .NET 3.0 apps for Win 98 through Win 2000 users?

Not true. .NET 3 is not a replacement for Win32. .NET 3 is .NET 2 with entensions added. These are Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), and Windows CardSpace.

True, unless the requirements change at the final release, but I doubt they will.

You don't since those O/S' are not supported. You'll have to use .NET 2 are lower depending on what you're targeting.

I knew this naming decision would cause problems. When it was still called WinFX it was something distinct and didn't cause people to think they needed to upgrade. Not that you need to upgrade from .NET 1.1 to 2.0 if it's working, since you can install the runtimes side-by-side. You can still install .NET 1.1 on Windows Vista Beta 2.

The problems have just begun. Think of how confusing it will be for "decision makers" at companies when they need to decide if they want to use .NET 3 or 2. Well, 3 is 2, but 2 is not 3. Hmm... Confused | :confused:

reset a memorystream

hey folks,

what is the fastest way to have a clean fresh System.IO.MemoryStream each time i write into it?

one way is to make a

ms.SetLength(0)

before i write in to it. Another way is to create a new one each time. i think this two methods aren't very fast. is there another posibility to clear a stream?

No, there isn't. If you want something faster, perhaps you should use something other than MemoryStream. Why the need for speed?

That depends. Setting the length to 0 should probably be faster than creating a new one, but the speed of that single action is not all that affects the speed of your application. A MemoryStream that is reset will probably handle memory allocations differently from a newly created one. I know too little about that difference, and especially too little about what your application is doing, to advice you in either direction.

Don't do premature omtimization. You should always avoid anti-patterns (known bad solutions), but specific optimization should generally be put off until you know where and why you need it.

i integrated ironPython in my application to ensure sccripting support. ironPython writes it's output into a stream.

but you're right...currently everythings works fine and performace is till now no problem.

i am currently a developer that uses .net as my main programming environment. and i wanted to know how could i use .net to create License and then in turn use them to protect the applications that i have developed?
