Apologies if this is not the right group to post.
I am about to post a tutorial on programming the Windows 2000 ACL editor (in C++). However, the tutorial is running rather long, and I am wondering if I should split the article into a two or three part series.
Here's what I currently have in the tutorial:
1. (optional) A brief description of SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR and SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR_RELATIVE, and their differences.
2. (optional) A description of the ACL.
3. A brief description of the ACL Editor (from the programming perspective).
4. Implementing the ISecurityInformation methods.
ISecurityInformation::SetSecurity() (this is where most of my article will be focused).
This has already taken up to 3500 words already (35K, excluding code), and I haven't even started talking about the ISecurityInformation::SetSecurity() method (which I expect to take most of my content)!
Do you think I should post this article as a two part series?
Advantages if I split the article:
1. I won't need to jettison any content from my article. In fact I will be able to add in some stuff about General access control, how to enumerate them, how to build them, and include some information on the new System.Security.AccessControl classes (and maybe Keith brown's code).
2. C#/VB/.Net programmers will then find the article useful.
3. The reader won't be so intimidated by the horde of information that they have to read.
4. I will have covered everything, so the reader won't be left confused and asking "WTH is a SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR  ?".
5. Reviews and feedback will be easier for the reader (since you can say "the first article woz teh suck", but the "second article had teh 1337!") 
Disadvantages if I split the article into a series:
1. It will take me longer to author.
2. Perhaps it's too long because I suck at writing (but you alrady knew that just by reading this post!  ).
3. I'm writing about two separate distinct topics (general authorization, and programming the ACLUI), and that's why my article is so long (but that means I should post 2 articles!).
4. Maybe I should redirect the users to other tutorials instead of rewriting about Access control (does anyone know any articles about the security descriptor?).
If I hear no feedback, then I will go ahead and split the article in two (or 3).

From your description, I would split it into two parts:
1 - cover all the details of ACLs: definitions, structs, APIs, interfaces, etc.
2 - talk about the ACL editor
That way part 2 builds on part 1, but people who already know about ACLs can jump right to part 2.

Dear members,
This is not a specific tec doubts. This all about your experience and your way of dealing the issue.
Brief idea:
We have an application which uses Sybase database as Backend and Dotnet( C# Lan) as Front-End. This application uses IAnywhere.Data.AsaClient.dll (managed provider for Sybase db). This application is a small supporting module for our ERP which is developed using Power Builder.
Real requirement.
Now we are deciding to make this application as a pluggable for our ERP and also can plugged into other ERPS or applications, which have raw data needed to run our pluggable application.
Here the raw data ( data required to run this pluggable application ) may be in different database ( Db2,Sql Server,Oracle,Sybase etc). But now we don't have any interface or mechanism to pull the data from other Databases into my data base with required form (field name and data types).
What will be the better solution to make my product as pluggable for other application. ?
What is the real industry standard to tackle this sort of scenarios. ?
If you need to face this issue, what you will prefer to get out of this ?
How will i make a Data Pipe kind of mechanism to get required data in required form from other databases ?
Please do comment for this query. Your post will be most appreciable.

for data migration from one DB to another, there is a DTS package which you can automate via SQL DMO. another solution is make an intermediate flat file to transfer the data between different databases. you must write one tool to export the data from different Databases in to a flat file(xml is a better choice), and after that you can parse that File and you can update your database.

how can i connect in to a database without specifying the DSN name in the connection string ?, i heard some string with the combination of SERVER ; DATABASE and DRIVER can do that ! i tried but i couldnt.. any idea?

Situation : my program uses SQL server as database( local / remote ). user can add multiple companies( each company creates as seperate database), and i connects them via DSN , the problem is the DSN is creating in local machine. but the company details keeps in remote machine, any user connects to the remote machine can view the companies but he couldnot connect to that bcz the DSN resides in local machine from where the company was creted.
if there is any machanism to represent the DSN detailes in remote machine ( Table entries), i can connect into companies by using those info without depending the local DSN

always i gets the database which one i connects first..

Here is the problem: Everything works fine until I try to insert a tag, i.e.,
When I do this it makes the review page print where its not supposed to and the same with the final copy. I have disabled any required fields to make it easier. When I start to create something I start out with a paragraph tag followed by an image tag for some fancy lettering(currently the fancy letters only go up to J--they must be uppercase-it is described in the help file I'm putting together for the script. Any way-as I'm going on and then I'll try to insert a
followed by a couple spaces for neat looking paragraphs but what happens on the review page tells the rest. I love the article helper to death and have had a few minor issues with it which have all been resolved(many thanks to this forum and Jason. Any way, any leads to helping get this fixed would really be greatly appreciated-would put me yet one step closer to entering the promotion phase of the site project.

I installed Seamless Windows designed by Martin Wickett on a XP workstation and a Terminal Server Windows 2003. When I ran Remote Desktop Connection to
connect to the Terminal Server, I received the following error message:
"This application has failed to start because MSVCR70D.DLL has not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
I could not find MSVCR70D.DLL on my server. I reinstalled the Clipper on the server but I still got the same error.
Where can I find this file? What other software do I need to install on the server to make this works?
Please help!

I am doing my final year project now. My project is build a system that calculate the shortest distance between two places. The problem is I must understand the Floyd Warshall algorithm to proceed. This is becase I use that algorithm to calculate the shortest distance. But I cant understand.
Can you all help me??? Please explain in the simplest way. I really feel very hard to understand the algorithm. Please help me!!! I am running out of time! Thank you!

Hi All,
I am planning of designing a knowledge base.I want to design in such a way that this knowledge base can import and export artices(txt,doc,pdf..)sepatate and store the articles according to different categories(C++,linux...),support search based on category,keyword..

I have applications, which need to dial-up to the bank for money transaction. I have asked to the bank to give me a some information about their protocol, but I received only one answer that your software should be compatible with VITAL slandered. Does anyone know how to make or send information to a bank for bank transaction.

Although it may further the lack of productivity in offices everywhere, I would love to have a WMP plug-in for Visual Studio 2003. A nice pin-able tab where Family Guy, Simpsons, or music can play with out getting in the way all the time is what I would like. I got as far as getting Windows Media Player 9 to show up in a tab, but not actually functioning before I gave up for lack of time to figure the rest out . So, if anyone is feeling ambitious, I would love to add this to my development environment.

I'm guessing I need Windows 2003 to take advantage of that... I do some server programming so I have found it is just best to run server all the time rather then dual booting, especially since I reboot about once a month..
