Hey KaRl,
Hope it's ok to post this on your personal CP blog...I didn't want to post it in the Lounge or the SB because I don't want to disrupt. However, I do have a favor to ask (and seeing as how you're a pretty cool guy in the SB, I figured I'd ask).
So, anyways, here's the favor:
I really like this song by this French woman named Kate Ryan (well, her song is in French, so I suppose she's French as well but I'm not sure). I don't know much French, and the translation done by FreeTranslation.com sucks, so I was hoping you would translate the lyrics for me. If you will I will be SO SO grateful, as the long dance version of this song is one of my favorite songs. The song is called "Desenchantée". Please help me P.S. If this song makes you and you don't want to translate it, I will understand.
Nager dans les eaux troubles
Des lendemains
Attendre ici la fin
Flotter dans l'air trop lourd
Du presque rien
À qui tendre la main Si je dois tomber de haut
Que ma chute soit lente
Je n'ai trouvé de repos Que dans l'indifférence
Pourtant je voudrais retrouver l'innocence
Mais rien n'a de sens, et rien ne va
Chorus:
Tout est chaos
À côté Tous mes idéaux: des mots
Abîmés
Je cherche mon âme, qui
Pourra m'aider
Je suis
D'une génération
désenchantée,
Désenchantée
Qui pourrait m'empêcher
De tout entendre
Quand la raison s'effondre
À quel sein se vouer
Qui peut prétendre
Nous bercer dans son ventre
Si la mort est un mystère
La vie n'a rien de tendre
Si le ciel a un enfer
Le ciel peut bien m'attendre
Dis mois,
Dans ces vents contraires comment
s'y prendre Plus rien n'a de sens,
plus rien ne va.

This song was sung at first by a french pop female singer, Mylen Farmer.I'll try to translate, please excuse the poor quality of my english.
Swimming in troubled waters
Of the days after
Waiting here for the end
Floating in a too heavy air
Almost nothing
Whose hand to tighten If I shall fall from high
May my fall be slow
I found some rest In indifference only
However I would like to be innocent again
But nothing is meaningful, and nothing goes right
Chorus:
Everything is Chaos
On the side All my ideals: Words
Damaged
I'm looking for my soul, which (/who)
Could help me
I belong
To a generation
Without illusion,
Without illusion (/disillusioned)
Who could stop me
To hear everything
When reason collapses
Which breast to dedicate oneself to (1)
Who can pretend
To rock us in his/her belly
If Death is a mistery
Life is everything bu tenderness
If Heaven has a hell (2)
Heaven can wait for me
Tell me,
In these adverse winds how
to proceed nothing is meaningful anymore,
Nothing goes right anymore
(1): there's a pun here between the words "Sein" (tit) and "Saint" (saint).
There's a french saying, "ne plus savoir a quel saint se vouer". Literally, it means: "to no longer know which saint to dedicate yourself to". Figuratively, it means, "to be at your wit's end" (translation found on http://www.orthodoxengland.btinternet.co.uk/eurofall.htm)
(2): Ciel is basically translated as "sky", but in this case "Heaven" seems more appropriate to me.

Interesting, I would have had no idea. I'm gonna do some googling now.

That's a really great translation. I can even follow along to the song with my limited French knowledge. [edit type="duh"]<Smithers>Excellent!</Smithers><Mr. Burns>Excellent!</Mr. Burns>[/edit]

I've seen your english on the SoapBox and Lounge enough times to know, your English is not poor Karl, it's excellent. Thanks so much for the great translation, I really, really appreciate it! I've listened to the song about 5 times now, reading your English lyrics and the French lyrics side by side to get the feel for what it all means.
Also, if there's anything I can do to repay you, I'll be glad to.

(Ok, I have had to delete 2 old messages, I was so enthusiast to post that I missed the deadline)
The 4 "4". A "magic" number, at least for me: I'm born on April,14 (04/14), at 4.40 AM. 4 "4", again.
Even if I know that being superstitious carries misfortune, I feel deeply attached to this number.

Excellent choice!
The best temperature to drink it is between 13°C and 16°C, and the best conditions for the degustation are when it's shared with a beautiful girl
I'm waiting for your review.
