I think the disclaimer pretty much absolves me from responsibility for everything except that small conflagration in Rome. Even then, I think anyone alive today would be hard-pressed to present any concrete evidence that actually places me at the scene...

Sometimes you go too far John - you cross a line between funny and hurtful, and you end up making yourself look like an ignorant bigot. It really winds me up when you rip into Anna, because it is obvious that you are causing hurt - no worse than a schoolyard bully to be honest. And despite your claim to be "saying what others wouldn't dare" I think you come out of episodes like that looking like a twat.
Basically, most of the time, you make me laugh, but occasionally you make my blood boil.
Not sure about your "outlaw programmer" moniker either! (tongue-firmly-in-cheek).
When I am king, you will be first against the wall.

Well, if you go back in the archives, you'll find that I generally avoid responding to Andy's posts, responding only when he a) responds to or comments on one of mine, or b) makes a remark or comment that is wholly unjustified or baseless given his current situation (admittedly only happened once that I can recall). The recent exhange between us was of his own invention, not mine.
Call it boorish, self-righteousness, completely tasteless, or lacking anything even closely resembling patience or acceptance, but at least he knows where I stand, and that's better treatment than he's getting from people (closer to him) that are not as forthcoming in their own opinions or beliefs.
As long as he doesn't continue to throw it in my face, I'm equally pleased that I don't have to talk about it myself.
I'm glad I can make a few people laugh, but I'd be really worried if I didn't piss people off once in a while...
[EDIT] I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to come up with an excuse for any of that, but I won't change my belief system simply for the sake of "blending in" or "not rocking the boat". As you already know, that's not my style.

All joking asside, do you realise just how much hurt you continue to cause a fair moinority of our fellow members? I'm not talking pissing people off here and shouting a few names, I'm talking people who go home and cry themselves to sleep or at worst commit to self harm because of your actions. I'm glad you find it so easy to live with that; I wouldn't be able to, and a number of the people I have talked to who have been deeply hurt by some of your non-jest comments also find it hard to. -- And they may not have even been targetted directly by your words - that is an important point to realise.

Well, I'll admit that I'm a little surprised that I cause people to cry themselves to sleep, especially when they fall into the category of collateral injuries, but I can't honestly say that it bothers me enough to change my evil ways.
It's unfortunate, but an inevitable byproduct, especially since we have over 430,000 people in the group.

Of course you can never please everyone, no one can, but if someone says to you that something you've said sincerely upsets them then I do not believe you should push them even harder, especially when potentially very serious issues are the topic. There are strong people, there are weak people, and there are people like you who will god willing never understand why it should be so important, but even they do not have the right to play Darwin.

When pushed on - fine. When pushing on - not fine. There is a difference, one is dealing with trouble and one is making it.

That statement was completely out of f***in line - way beyond anything I've ever said to anyone here. You want to be on the radar, that's fine with me - I can make it quite uncomfortable for you.

Nish, you are sick!
Have you been doing too many drugs since you moved to the states?
I don't agree with what you said about john changed character, but you do have changed
By saing things like that, you are even worse that what you say john is, and i'm not saying this because i'm a john-fan (i'm not, i just accept him), i say it because you make me sick!

Be aware before you pass judgement that to some people "mentality" is very different to what some others (possibly yourself from your reaction) treat it as. I believe what Nish was trying to indicate was that he thinks John is the sort of person who would take pleasure in hurting someone indirectly at the expense of some unfortunate catalyst individual (of who I can name a handful from this community).

Err,
Nish, your usually very good at explaining yourself, but I think this was an incredibly bad example. There are somethings you just don't use for examples, and peadophillia and rape are two of those. There is a line, and you seem to have crossed it.

To be honest, I don't think it's you personally that irritates me - it's the mindless sycophantic masses that encourage you to post more drivel.
You are the child that belches loudly at the dinner table - the others laugh and find it amusing. Neither behavior is acceptable, although without the approval of his peers the child may stop, realising that his behavior is inappropriate.
In the right setting with the right people, crude humor and blunt remarks can be hilarious - a great friend of mine was famous for this. He could have an entire room in fits of laughter with a few well-aimed comments. A public message board with an uncertain audience is not an ideal platform to attempt this brand of 'humor'.
As I said before, some people seem to find you funny. These are the same types of people that will claim they are not racist, yet will laugh like drains when you offend an entire continent with one flippant well thought-out remark.
Your defense is that you say the things that others are too afraid to say, but this is a weak cover-up for your general desire to be offensive. There are many ways to express your opinions, being obnoxious is probably the least effective.
Ironically, these two threads serve as nothing more than encouragement to you. I fully expect you to continue belching at the dinner table, since your disciples will continue to applaud your abrasive behavior.

That's not fair. This thread is about why you don't like *me*, not the "mindless sycophantic masses".

I know precisely who my "audience" is.

Ummmm, no, they don't.

Truthfully, I've never done that, but I did fart in an elevator a couple of times. I guess we all break down socially once in a while...

You do understand that talking about racial issues (even in a humorous fashion) is not the same as being rascist, right?

I would not bother Brian. I posted my reply then saw his "I touched a nerve?" answer and realised no matter how we couch our thoughts he will think he is clever for having "touched a nerve."
Us gay-bashing, cross-burning, coloured-hitting, woman-beating white males just have to ignore remarks like that. *belch* Pass me another beer Brian, oh and your pants are riding too high, can't see your butt crack anymore.

And that makes me a racist? LOL. Lets get something straight. A racist in practical terms is someone who will vote yes next to the law that asks for "Everyone but [your race] should not have rights and only exist for your betterment." I just find stereotypes hilarious, does not mean I actually force my Chinese butler to ride to and from work on a bicycle 'cause that is what Chinese do.
PC is going too far IMO, if you can't laugh at life then you are so screwed.
John may be bitter, twisted and he does cross the line more than he should, but the man is not stupid and his jokes can be genuinely humourus. People pay good money to go see stand up comics like John, yet John is not acceptable just because he is not an official stand up comic? Come on.
Live a little, give as good as you take and if you cannot ignore him then life must be pretty hard for you because he is tame compared to some of the chaps you will meet.
