I simply wanted to give people a place that they feel they could say what they want. I certainly won't be holding it against anyone that participates in this thread.
Besides, it keeps the noise level to a minimum in the other forums, and there won't be any need for post voting here. I figured with so much of that kind of thing going on, there must be a reason, and I want to find out what those reasons are, because I think I'm a fairly likable guy.
Look at it as a vain attempt at self improvement.

You were my inspiration here David.
I figured it made sense to give people a place to tear me down when they felt like it.

You haven't quite got the hang of it yet... notice how I only have a "good things about me" thread, not a "bad things" one.

Well, there's so much to dislike about me, I wanted to give everyone a chance to put in their 2 cents worth. It's part of my self-deprecating nature...

You're a snob, and your disclaimer is way too long.

Some things just have to be said. You can blame today's litigious society for the length (it was much longer, but there's an arbitrarily small limitation on how much text that can be included in a bio).

I think the disclaimer pretty much absolves me from responsibility for everything except that small conflagration in Rome. Even then, I think anyone alive today would be hard-pressed to present any concrete evidence that actually places me at the scene...

Sometimes you go too far John - you cross a line between funny and hurtful, and you end up making yourself look like an ignorant bigot. It really winds me up when you rip into Anna, because it is obvious that you are causing hurt - no worse than a schoolyard bully to be honest. And despite your claim to be "saying what others wouldn't dare" I think you come out of episodes like that looking like a twat.
Basically, most of the time, you make me laugh, but occasionally you make my blood boil.
Not sure about your "outlaw programmer" moniker either! (tongue-firmly-in-cheek).
When I am king, you will be first against the wall.

Well, if you go back in the archives, you'll find that I generally avoid responding to Andy's posts, responding only when he a) responds to or comments on one of mine, or b) makes a remark or comment that is wholly unjustified or baseless given his current situation (admittedly only happened once that I can recall). The recent exhange between us was of his own invention, not mine.
Call it boorish, self-righteousness, completely tasteless, or lacking anything even closely resembling patience or acceptance, but at least he knows where I stand, and that's better treatment than he's getting from people (closer to him) that are not as forthcoming in their own opinions or beliefs.
As long as he doesn't continue to throw it in my face, I'm equally pleased that I don't have to talk about it myself.
I'm glad I can make a few people laugh, but I'd be really worried if I didn't piss people off once in a while...
[EDIT] I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to come up with an excuse for any of that, but I won't change my belief system simply for the sake of "blending in" or "not rocking the boat". As you already know, that's not my style.

All joking asside, do you realise just how much hurt you continue to cause a fair moinority of our fellow members? I'm not talking pissing people off here and shouting a few names, I'm talking people who go home and cry themselves to sleep or at worst commit to self harm because of your actions. I'm glad you find it so easy to live with that; I wouldn't be able to, and a number of the people I have talked to who have been deeply hurt by some of your non-jest comments also find it hard to. -- And they may not have even been targetted directly by your words - that is an important point to realise.

Well, I'll admit that I'm a little surprised that I cause people to cry themselves to sleep, especially when they fall into the category of collateral injuries, but I can't honestly say that it bothers me enough to change my evil ways.
It's unfortunate, but an inevitable byproduct, especially since we have over 430,000 people in the group.

Of course you can never please everyone, no one can, but if someone says to you that something you've said sincerely upsets them then I do not believe you should push them even harder, especially when potentially very serious issues are the topic. There are strong people, there are weak people, and there are people like you who will god willing never understand why it should be so important, but even they do not have the right to play Darwin.

Simply put, I push back when pushed on - everyone here knows it. If they're new, they learn very quickly.

When pushed on - fine. When pushing on - not fine. There is a difference, one is dealing with trouble and one is making it.

That statement was completely out of f***in line - way beyond anything I've ever said to anyone here. You want to be on the radar, that's fine with me - I can make it quite uncomfortable for you.
