Three phase is more efficient than single line or dual line, especially for motors and such.
Kind of like RAID storage. The more disks in an array, the lower the overhead/loss.
My parents’ old house had three phase, and it was used for all of the HVAC compressors and blowers.

In practically all new Norwegian houses, 3 phase is standard, and has been for many years. I am living in an old house (1959), which had only 1 phase when I moved in, in 1985, but when I asked to have it upgraded to 3 phase a couple of years later, they came and fixed it the same week: The cable for 3 phase was already in the ground: Around 1980, they had abandoned the old air cable and dug an new ground cable, with 3 phase up to every house in the street, whether the house owner wanted 3 phase or not.
With 3 phase, you either have 3 conductors, L1, L2 and L3, and your single-phase circuit in the house is distributed among L1-L2, L2-L3 or L3-L1 - there is a 230V potential between any pair. This is called 'delta' 3-phase, and has traditionally been the standard one in Norway. In new residential area, they use a 4 conductor cable, L1, L2, L3 and N (neutral), and single-phase circuits are distributed among L1-N, L2-N and L3-N; they call this a Y (or 'star') system. Between L1-L2, L2-L3 or L3-L1, the potential is 400V. The power companies claim that is has great advantages, but they fail to convince me: If you come between one of the L conductors and ground, the potential is about 115 V in a delta system, but 230 V in a Y system. Believe me: The difference is noticeable!
Even though most homes nowadays have 3 phase power, only the very most power hungry equipment are built for 3 phase: The sauna heater. The electric heating element in your heat pump engaged when the compressor (the 'real' heat pump) can't alone keep up with your heating requirements (but for all private home models, the compressor is always single phase), a few but not very many cooking stoves.
In Norway, another 3 phase application has become more popular over the last few years: We have the world's highest density of electric cars (we are responsible for keeping Tesla alive!), and their owners want to have a fast charger at home. 3600 W, which the maximum you can draw on a standard 230V 15A circuit, isn't exactly 'fast charging'. For anything higher, you need to pull thicker cables from your fuse box to the charger, and then you pull a 3- or 4-conductor 3 phase cable, usually so that you can charge your car at 11 or 22 kW.
As you say, high power motors often require 3 phase, but then we are talking about > 3000 W motors. For home use, you rarely need more than a 3 kW motor for eg. a stationary wood cutting saw or a log splitter. For industrial and farming applications, the motors are usually more high-powered, and 3 phase is standard.

Three phase to the house, I can see that happening over here what with all the electric 'green' cars. As you say you can get just over 400V which could be a real asset to battery chargers. What ticks me off is you get all these people saying heating is wrong and wasting electricty, while driving a plug in car (which wastes far more!).

Hi,
A Mega256 and a I can't read the chip silk screen and the circuit diagram has been long since lost. My thinking is that board can be junked and replaced with Mega if I can get the interrupt handler to work properly...
I think it's I'm trying to a non-maskable interrupt and it keeps masking it, I hope. I think it's time to RTFM.

Keep your fingers away from that press, Glenn! And stay away from the 480V circuit - they're dangerous! I've actually seen farm workers fiddle with a long screwdriver poking around in a 480/3Φ motor control; the ones that survive don't do it again.

Oooh, I know, had a very nasty shock missing finger prints which causes issue every time I have to give them. The best one waas immagration to the States once, conivenced a woman on the bus 'it was because of my time in Tora Boara Mountains' while the search Osama Bin Larden was on.

I have replaced breakers in main breaker boxes.
Just make sure to turn of the main power switch to the box and you should be OK.
Any hot AC in the box is not safe to work with unless the power is off.

Yoshitaka Suzuki - Battle at the Big Bridge - Ver.2 FFRK Ver.Arrange[^]
I learned a few things last week.
There's a Final Fantasy game named Record Keeper, which implements a "gacha" mechanic, which is apparently a "toy vending machine".
No idea what such a game looks like, but I'm assuming the worst.
Anyway, I found the soundtrack on Spotify, which are arrangements from other Final Fantasy games.
And Battle on the Big Bridge, the fight with Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V (and later XII), has three arrangements on this album!
The original is by Nobuo Uematsu, but for this game it was arranged by Yoshitaka Suzuki.
Like any other FF fan, I love this song so I couldn't be happier! SOTW!
