The situation with datacenter storage was already complicated when I got out of any sort of software development that required me to be in proximity to such a system back in the early aughts.
I can only imagine what it looks like now, if it's in any way comparable to the way the web has evolved since then.

The situation hasn`t changed that much since 2010 we`re still saving pictures and text on our Facebook accounts. I guess the difference today is that while in 2010 10% of people had facebook now the percentage is 80 or more.

The only major difference is the percentage of storage taken up by cat videos. 20 years ago it was close to 0%, today it's heading toward 100%.

Like 4 years ago they came to us, as we wanted to use ready-made tracking software instead of writing our own...
After they tried very hard to persuade us to do things totally differently we send them back to the hole they came from...

We have a self-hosted JIRA version since last year, only to hear now that they will no longer support it, only the online version!
Needless to say that we don't want JIRA anymore

There are JIRA self-hosted alternatives, but it is hard to find one that will satisfy both developers and support, there seems to be a big gap between "helpdesk software" and "issue tracking software".
Personally I would go for YouTrack, but that probably will be disliked by support, so management has decided to try out Axosoft.
