Bought a monitor
They sent me an HDMI cable
I don't have HDMI ports on either of my two computers
Internet search says to use an adapter
Do I want...
- A VGA to HDMI adapter ?
- (or)
- A DisplayPort to HDMI adapter ?
|
|
|
|

Whichever of VGA or DisplayPort your computer has, that would govern which cable/adapter to purchase. If it's a matter of quality between the two, I'm sure you already know the answer to that.

The old one only has VGA
The new one has both
So, I suppose it will be DisplyPort for the new monitor, and straight VGA for the old one.
Thanks

which do you have on your computers. If you have a display port that is probably more better. But either will work.
I had this issue yesterday. But it was slightly different. only had DisplayPort cables and was trying to setup to HDMI. Fun fun.
To err is human to really elephant it up you need a computer

Neither, get a DisplayPort cable. Surely the monitor has a DP hole (no pun intended) even if it didn't come with a suitable cable, any monitor that I've bought in the last decade has had one.
Or DP to HDMI if you must. VGA to HDMI exists, but that's an extra analog-digital conversion and the adapters come with their own limits (not high ones) on resolution and framerate.

I see no DP jack on this monitor
I'll ask the place where I bought it
[[[-EDIT-]]]
Just looked it up.
Found THESE SPECS HERE and it looks like No DP was planned or built.
It has HDMI
It has no DP
I will be happily corrected if I'm wrong.

That's some previous-gen tech you got there, but so be it. Even VGA to HDMI adapter has a chance here, because it's only 1080p at 60Hz, which many such adapters support (as their maximum rating).

I've had mixed results with adapters - say one that converts DP to VGA. Save your receipts.

Buy a DisplayPort to HDMI cable. Adapters can cause signal loss.

Thank you each and every human here.
Indeed, a better cable is next on the agenda.
Walmart to the rescue; bought an adapter; probably not the greatest idea; but works for the moment.

Excluding of course, the way women think.

That's rather sexist, isn't it?

Is this one of those awkward grandpa moments? You know, the one where grandpa tells off-color, racist, sexist, and otherwise cringe-worthy jokes.

Now too the crux of my question? What do you think? About cryptography?
