I have already told it several times: Go and ask for a background check yourself.
If you were not convicted there should not be anything in the report. If the report is empty, just STFU and don't tell anything about it.
You have even been said by several professionals in several different countries (even your own) that even if the report wasn't empty it shouldn't be a problem if you have the correct skill set. YOU are making it a problem.

Depending where you live, no.
A freelancer is an unprotected one man company. No insurance unless you buy them. You need to be sure to turn a profit, or back out. For most, it is a bad idea.
